Paul Proctor and Bill Wiggins take lead on Ross Barnett with 17.47 lbs

10/26/2012 Ridgeland, MS… After a beautiful, fog-free, day of competition, Texas East competitors, Bill Wiggins and Paul Proctor, took the lead late today with an impressive bag of green fish weighing 17.47 lbs in the 2012 FOM Stren Team Series, South Central Regional Championship. Of the 86 teams competing, 40 of them brought in 5-fish limits. Overall today, 295 fish crossed the scales weighing 592.20 lbs with a 99.7 live release percentage rate.
Following closely behind and presently in 2nd place are Flannagan Fife and Royce Davis. The Arkansas Central teammates have 16.92 lbs.
At 16.06 lbs, Louisiana South’s Jim Bridges and George Valentine are in 3rd place, ready to make their move on Saturday’s final day.
Currently in 4th place, with 15.88 lbs and winning the Day One, 1st Big Fish Award for their 5.70 lbs largemouth, are the Louisiana North-Central team of Courtney and Ken Harris.
Mississippi Central competitors, Jeffrey Hand and James Weeks are resting in fifth place with 14.66 lbs.
Perennial favorites, also fishing out of the Mississippi Central Division, Percy and David Jones have 13.82 lbs and are parked in the 6th place slot.
The Day 1, 1st Big Fish Award went to Rich Dalbey for his 6.16 lbs brute. Rich and his teammate, Dave Gillhan brought in the trophy fish, along with 4 additional ones, for a total of 13.48 lbs and 7th place. Dave and Rich fish out of the Texas-Lake Fork Division.
Texas East’s Robert and Matthew Moore are the leading adult-junior team with 10.26 lbs and James and Sharlet Edwards, from the Louisiana South Division, are on top of the male-female teams with 8.68 lbs.
Teams from Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas came to Ridgeland, Mississippi this week as a result of battling their way to the top of their respective divisions, thru five qualifying events that were held this past spring and summer, thus, earning them the privilege to compete for nearly $40,000.00 in prizes and cash awards.
The top 10 teams by weight and the highest placing team from each division, not already qualified, along with the highest finishing Adult-Youth and Male-Female teams from all 2012 Regional Championships will earn a berth to the 2012/2013 Stren Team Series, National Championship, Presented by Pflueger, which will be held May 16th, 17th, and 18th on Clarks Hill Reservoir in Columbia County Georgia, where the first place prize will be a 2013 Skeeter FX-21 powered by the strong running Yamaha 250/SHO and the second place prize, a Skeeter ZX190 powered by a Yamaha 150, or cash prizes.
