10/27/2012 Ridgeland, MS… The Stren Team Series South Central Regional Championship came to a close today as anglers endured brutal, blustery, post frontal, conditions in order to bring 406.10 lbs of fish to the scales that included 24, 5-fish limits. The Arkansas Central team of Flannagan Fife and Royce Davis managed a 13.57 lbs limit today, which gave them a tournament total of 30.49 lbs and the victory. Flannagan and Royce earned championship plaques and a brand new black and white Skeeter ZX 190, powered by a 150hp Yamaha VMAX, in a package valued at more than $32,000.00.
Royce and Flannagan worked shallow areas with small Rat-L-Traps, white Stanley Ribbit frogs, and Baby Brush Hogs around pads and other aquatic vegetation. Flannagan and his regular partner, Steve Cannon also won a new boat with FOM during the South Central Championship on Lake Dardanelle, near Russellville, AK back in 2010.
Moving up from 5th place to finish 2nd overall with 28.22 lbs, is the Mississippi Central team of Jeffery Hand and James Weeks. The two traveled north each day to Bell Lake and worked Zoom Flukes, Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper paddle tail swim baits, buzzbaits, and Brush Hogs to net 14.66 on Day 1 and 13.46 today.
TX-Lake Fork Div teammates, Dave Gillham and Rich Dalby captured 3rd place with 10 fish weighing 27.08. Dave and Rich worked water near the river channel up in the northern part of the lake. Rich stated that they used SPRO frogs, senkos, but their best fish ate Dirty Jigs Tackle, white swim jigs. They want to thank Kistler Custom Fishing Rods, Numa Optics, Rayjus Custom Jerseys, Hags Tornado Baits, Jewel Jigs, and War Eagle Spinnerbaits.
4th place went to Texas East’s, Paul Proctor and Bill Wiggins for their 10 bass that went 26.99 lbs.
Paul and Bill worked Stanley Ribbit frogs in and over pads, mid-lake, on the east side, in 3 to 4 feet of water. They would like to thank Trey at Kistler Custom Fishing Rods for his support.
Pelahatchie Bay and the North Parkway Causeway Bridge, along with Roses Bluff are credited with helping Skipper and Chuck Smith nail down 5th place with 22.75 lbs. The Mississippi South father-son team worked chartreuse-black, SPRO, Little John crankbaits and white swim jigs tipped with Strike King Rage Tail Craw trailers in these areas to net the Day 2, 7.17 lbs, 1st monster Big Fish.
The Day 2, 2nd Big Fish Award went to Winston Michel for his jaw-dropping 7.14 lbs bucketmouth. Winston and Sandy Gaudet said that their giant bass busted a buzzbait at 7:45 this morning and that they were thankful for the Skeeter livewell in keeping the behemoth healthy throughout the day. We all were amazed that this fish would be bested by .03 lbs just moments later in today’s weighin. These two fish earned top honors as the best of the tournament.
The highest finishing Adult-Youth team went to Randy and grandson Jace Ladner, MS-S, for hauling in 19.17 lbs for the event. Jim and Sharlot Edwards, Texas North-Central, earned a spot in next spring’s national championship for their 19.19 lbs as the highest finishing Male-Female team.
Teams from Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas came to Ridgeland, Mississippi this week in a great finale for the South Central Region as a result of battling their way to the top of their respective divisions, thru five qualifying events that were held this past spring and summer, thus, earning them the privilege to compete for over $40,000.00 in prizes and cash awards.
The South Central Regional Championship paid out to 17 places. The top 10 teams by weight and the highest placing team from each division, not already qualified, along with the highest finishing Adult-Youth and Male-Female teams from all 2012 Regional Championships will earn a berth to the 2012/2013 Stren Team Series, National Championship, Presented by Pflueger, which will be held May 16th, 17th, and 18th on Clarks Hill Reservoir in Columbia County Georgia, where the first place prize will be a 2013 Skeeter FX-21 powered by the strong running Yamaha 250/SHO and the second place prize, a Skeeter ZX190 powered by a Yamaha 150, or cash prizes, plus a second-chance final day Redemption Tournament for those who do not make the top 20 percent cut on Friday.
