Get Hooked On Youth/Adult Bass Fishing Open
April 28, 2012
Lake Shelbyville level 586.28 Falling
Skies Cloudy most of the day.
Tournament was delayed about 15 minutes while a brief thunderstorm moved through, Fifteen boats took of in search of that big catch to bring to the scales. There were six teams from Edinburg High school entered. This was a different format from what they fish in the high school tournaments. In the school tournaments there are two student anglers and one adult boat captain. Boat captain is not allowed to fish. So being one-on-one with an adult that was fishing right along with them.
This event was a no entry fee/no membership fee to introduce Legacy to some that had not experienced youth/adult tournament. Hopefully some will return for the regular season events.
Four of the high school teams brought fish to the scales and the winning team of Don Dust and Brian Yoder won both big bag and big bass. They had five fish with a weight of 12.09 pounds with big fish weighing 4.59 pounds.
Second place went to father daughter team of David Doty and Ashton Doty. Since this tournament was a fun event and did not count toward year end points standing Ashton and David came in early to weigh-in because Ashton had to go get ready for High School Prom. They weighed in five fish for total weigh of 11.98 pounds.
Third place team was Elmo Weaver and Kaleb Wood with five fish weighing 10.98 pounds and the second biggest bass weighing 3.64 pounds.
There were four teams with five fish limits, one team with four fish, three teams that had three fish and one time that only weighed in one fish.
As it seems to be the normal event for it to rain on days we have tournaments the weather did not disappoint us. It was nice and did a very brief shower before take off but after the weigh-in and we had gotten everything loaded in the trailer the rain came.
The official tournament season will open June 2 once again on Lake Shelbyville at Wolf Creek State Park.
