Fishers of Men Texas Central division event #1 is in the books.. The event began with anglers meeting the end of January at Maxdale Cowboy Church in Killeen, TX. The Church was a great recommendation by Mr. Michael Kersey and Mr. Ronnie Chance, we are so happy that we accepted the invitation to this amazing facility. The folks rolled out the red carpet for us, the meal was fantastic and the kindness that we experienced from the staff there was indescribable. If you are in the Killeen area and looking for a wonderful church, please take time and visit the folks there, I guarantee you they will welcome you with open arms.
We had a packed house for the meal and the message that Mr. Bill Shelnutt delivered. Bill put together handouts for all those in attendance and also passed out lures to everyone as well. One of the many special things he did was providing everyone with a small marble, an item to carry and to serve as a reminder tool for what the Lord would have us do during times of concern, a small item to carry in their pockets that will take your focus off the situation and on the one who can change the situation regardless of how big or small. The message was followed by a Texas Central division style raffle, we handed out some amazing prizes to anglers and their family members. Our raffles are incredible, and we have so many great companies to thank for that. See below for the list of local sponsors that support this division, not only do they provide for us, but they also believe in building the Kingdom. So happy to call them all friends. Melissa Eller handed out spouse gifts to all the women in attendance, she does an amazing job picking out wonderful gifts for lady anglers and spouses.
Tournament day started off perfectly, we had beautiful weather and calm water for about 2 or three hours, after which all the Wake Boats, Jet Ski’s and pleasure boaters showed up. Everybody showed up and wanted to take advantage of the great weather provided. Unfortunately, all that traffic and movement makes for a rough day on a lake that is laid out like a river. Despite the traffic and the busy waterway, the bass were hungry. The team of Jimmy Bennett and David Polk reported to the scales with a 5 fish limit weighing 22.69lbs, their bag was anchored by a big one weighing 8.22lb. They took first place and first place in Bonus Bucks as well. Jayson Kisselburg and Lake Kisselburg secured the second-place spot with a limit weighing in at 20.76lbs. Gus Chavira and Toby Turner grabbed ahold of third place with 18.92, they also took Big Bass honors for the day with a giant weighing in at 8.44lbs. Fourth place team of Mike Sedillo and Justin Rathbun, the team brought in 16.56lbs, their sack was anchored by a 7.9lb bass that Justin boated. Fifth place went to Garrett Stone and Christian Cruanyas, they showed up with a limit that tilted the scales to 15.32lbs. Austin Talasek and Kyler Roberts took sixth place with a limit weighing in at 14.58lbs.
A total of 104 fish were brought to the scales weighing a total of 271.44lbs.
Mr. Jimmy Bennett was kind enough to deliver a short word after the weigh in, he delivered a great word about having faith. He then took the opportunity to point out a few folks in the crowd like my little helper JW, who turned 13 years old yesterday and was there helping me get things set up.
It was an amazing event, we are so blessed to have such wonderful folks involved in this ministry to help in every moving piece, just to name a few; Nikki, Maycie, JW, Nathan, Chris, Ty, Charlie & Holly, Jimmy & David, Brian, Hal and everyone else that steps in to lend a hand in set up, running and tear down of all the equipment. I truly appreciate the help.
We certainly could not accomplish what we do without the help from both National sponsors and our local sponsors. Fishers of Men is a national trail that puts on amazing events at the local, regional and national level, the sponsors that help with this ministry are vital and we appreciate each and every one of them.
On the national level we would like to recognize and thank Berkley , BassCat Boats, Abu Garcia, Mercury, Fenwick, Realtree Fishing, FireFly Outdoor & Marine, Power-Pole, T&H Marine, Frogg Toggs, X2 Power and Jacobs Glass
Texas Central Division would also like to thank our local companies that help so much, companies that become part of the Texas Central family, we thank you and love you all.
