The Indiana North Division of Fishers of Men started off their season at Morse Reservoir in Cicero, Indiana April 7th, 2022. The tournament was held as a combination tournament with the South Division holding their second event of the year.
A combined night of fellowship took place on Friday night with both divisions coming together at Cicero Christian Church for a meal, meeting and message delivered by South Division Chaplin Marshall Tucker of Indianapolis. Marshall shared his personal testimony of life before Christ and the change in his life including a call to ministry that spanned over 50 years.
On Saturday morning, eight team competed in the north division tournament with Marshall Tucker and Aaron Thomas being the only team from the south to cross over and fish the North Division.
The morning started out at a crisp 34 degree and temperatures didn’t get above the 40 degree mark all day, wind, sleet and snow played a factor throughout the day. Water temperatures averaged around 46 degrees on the day as the pre-spawn bite was hard to come by for many teams. Those getting on fish were able to make due with good bites and the average bass weighted in on average of 3.5 pounds.
At weigh in, Evan Graber claimed the Big Bass Award presented by CMA Truck & Auto .com 4.97-pound big bass. Austin and Evan finished the day with three bass and third place with 12.79 lbs.
Second place went to local Brad Reed of Cicero and Dave Case of Elwood with four fish and 13.92 pounds.
Taking top honors went to Gary Straber and Jeff Hackler with Logan Straber serving as a sub with his dad. Gary and Logan came to the scale with the only five fish limit and won with over a five and a half pounds at 19.45 pounds. It was ironic Gary and Logan were able to raise the first places plaques present by Raptor Fishing Rods as Gary is owner of the company. When asking Gary how does that feel, “Great!” was his reply!
The North Divisions next event will be held on Lake Wawasee in Syracuse, Indiana on Saturday, May 7th.
