Event number four of the Texas Central Fishers of Men 2022 season is a wrap. What a weekend it was, we had a great time that started with registration on Friday the 13th at the First Baptist Church of Granite Shoals. Angler Mike Crane, his amazing wife Lisa, their daughter, and friends coordinated everything for the registration. They had pulled pork that Mike smoked for several hours, beans donated by the Granite Shoals PD, all the fixings you could ask for. It was a great dinner they all make it work wonderfully and we certainly appreciated their hard work and dedication.
Mike Crane delivered a wonderful message on salvation, what it means to truly turn it over and live for God, his testimony was very moving and certainly showed how God can slow things down and place everything in perspective. We then gave a bunch of items away to lucky winners and went over the particulars for Saturday’s tournament.
Saturday started very early at Blue Briar Park in Granite Shoals, anglers launched early due to the amount of boat traffic that was anticipated for the day, and that was a good thing. Two other events were taking place and the amount of recreational traffic was a challenge for anglers throughout the day. With excessive boat traffic, the sun shinning down and temps in the 90’s the father / son team of Gerald and Jarrett Rabroker were able to outsmart the green fish and bring in a bag weighing 28.03lbs. Gerald called me around 11 asking when the scales would be open so he could weigh, he stated he had a huge bag and wanted to get the fish back in the water and in their environment as soon as possible. We were able to weigh the fish at 1:30 and get them back in LBJ for someone else to catch later. The 28.03 bag contained the kicker fish they needed to secure both first place and Big Bass for the event, that kicker tipped the scales at 7.94lbs. Second Place team of Bryan Cotter and Phillip Smith were able to bring 15.62 pounds to the scale. Bryan and Phillip were also the recipients of first place in Bonus Bucks for the event. Father / Son team of Chester and Tyler Jenke were able to close the deal on third place, they brought in a limit of fish weighing 15.26lbs. Fourth place was secured by the high energy team of Michael Kersey and Patrick Zangarine, they reported to the scales with a limit of fish weighing 15.03.
Lake LBJ turned out to be a great event for all, we truly enjoyed the registration, meal, fellowship, and fishing. This is what Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail is all about. Unlike any other tournament trail, seeing anglers sharing and spending time together, hearing a message that moves, one that truly defines Gods love for his children, giving others the opportunity to stop living for the things of this world and focus on eternal life. What a blessing it is to spend time with these anglers and those who support this trail. As a tournament director, I am truly blessed by all those helping, fishing and involved with the Texas Central Division.
