The 2022 Texas Central Fishers of Men season is over, it ended today after anglers battled it out on Lake Buchanan. What a way to finish the season, with a make up event during upper 90-degree temps.
The final event of the year began Friday evening with angler registration at Cross and Spurs Cowboy Church. Pastor Johnny Sawyer and his staff provided us with a building and a fried fish dinner with potato salad, beans, hushpuppies and all the fixings. The hospitality of this group is incredible, we are very blessed to call them friends. Angler Jimmy Bennett of JMB Foundation provided a very powerful message that everyone could relate to, a message that proves God has a plan for each one of us, and he is in control. Anglers enjoyed the wonderful meal and we rolled right into a very large raffle, we were able to raffle off rods, reels, several different lure packages, hats, shirts and many more items.
Saturday morning live wells were checked, and anglers were released to begin the battle on Buchanan, and what a picture-perfect day for being on the lake. The sun was high, the sky was clear, and wind was light, yep, a perfect day to be on the lake doing anything but fishing… The bite proved to be tough for most teams, the clear skies and lack of wind did not help things. As everyone knows, regardless of the conditions, someone is going to catch them, the team of Bryan Cotter and Phillip Smith did just that. Bryan and Phillip showed up to the scales today with 5 fish weighing 14.56lbs, this sack was good enough for first place and contained the big bass of the event coming in at 5.99lbs. The team also walked away with first place in Bonus Bucks for the event. Bryan and Phillip finished the season as Points Champions which results in auto entry into the Fishers of Men National Championship Event where they will be competing for a new Bass Cat Boat.
Second place position was secured by the father / son team of Gerald and Jarrett Rabroker, the two came to the scales with a sack of fish weighing 10.77lbs. They also secured second place in Bonus Bucks for the event. Third place and third in Bonus Bucks was captured by Logan Clark and his father as an approved substitute. The Clark duo came in with 5 fish for 10.54 pounds. The Buchanan bite was tough for most and the numbers were lower than expected, but this event was a perfect wrap up for the season, regardless of the heat, the slow bite and the long day, anglers hung around and shared stories, they congratulated the winning teams and had a great time. As a tournament director it is truly satisfying to look around after a tough day and see anglers sharing stories and having a great time. Fishers of Men anglers are truly special, I am blessed indeed to know these anglers.
Our next event will be the Regional Championship in Oct, anglers that fished three normal season events are eligable to compete in the regional event for a slot at the National Championship. Regional event will be held on Ray Hubbard Lake.
Next season will be another amazing year, just keeps getting better and better. If you have not signed up and fished with Fishers of Men, you are truly missing out on a wonderful experience with incredible anglers. I highly recommend it.
