The North Carolina East Fishers of Men Firefly Weeknight Series held their third tournament of the 2024 season on the Yoepium River, April 5, 2024. A passing cold front made for tough fishing conditions with temperatures in the lower 50’s with 20-25 mph winds from the west. Seven teams participated in the tournament and all teams attended the pre-tournament meeting.
The meeting was started with a message from Kenneth Wallace who is our Firefly Weeknighter Series Chaplain. Kenneth spoke on the historical proof of Jesus and the evident proof of God. Chaplain Kenneth referenced Genesis 1 and shared the importance of accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior based on the evidence to avoid separation from God for eternity.
After reviewing the rules highlights and a closing Prayer, our fishermen set out on the water in search of the winning catch. The fishermen found the bite to be pretty tough with windy conditions which made running to other rivers almost impossible. There were 27 fish weighed for a total of 57.70 pounds. 27 of the fish were released back into the water for 100% release. The average number of fish per team was 3, average weight per team 8.25 pounds and the average fish weight was 2.14 pounds. When the teams came to the scale, our new team of Ben Perez and Adam Baldwin weighed the winning five fish limit that was 16.18 pounds with a 5.28 pound kicker fish which was also the Big Fish for the tournament. The first place prize was $195.00 dollars and Big Fish paid $35.00 dollars. Second place was awarded to Jason Samson and Kenneth Wallace who brought five fish to the scales that weighed 12.18 pounds. They took $50.00 dollars home for their efforts. Third Place went to Chris and Zach Meads for a five fish limit that weighed 7.80 pounds. Due to the number of participating teams, only two places were paid.
We would like to thank all those who helped with making this tournament a success, especially Kenneth Wallace, Gary Sawyer, Jason Samson and Isaiah Seigh as well as all our fishermen who helped and participated. Fishers of Men would like to thank all our National Sponsors; Berkley , BassCat Boats, Abu Garcia, Mercury, Fenwick, Realtree Fishing, FireFly Outdoor & Marine, Power-Pole, T&H Marine, Frogg Toggs, X2 Power and Jacobs Glass
