Richland Chambers Stop #2
We had an amazing 2nd event this week at Richland Chambers. Early in the week the forecast didn't look good for Saturday, but it turned out to be a great day of fishing. We held our meeting on Friday night at the Cowboy Church of Corsicana and they showed out big with the food and decorations for the meeting.
Pastor Derek Rogers brought the message that evening. Derek told a story about a man that had a pet parrot that he could take anywhere and after being there a few minutes he could tell him where he was at. The man took the parrot first to the boat ramp and as the other guys stood around and watched the man asked the parrot where he was at, and the parrot said boat ramp. The other guys were amazed but skeptical and thought the parrot had been trained to say boat ramp.
The guys then had a plan to take the parrot to the grocery store. The man took his parrot to the grocery store and showed him the sign and walked him down the grocery aisles and showed him all the food items. The man then took the parrot outside where all the guys were waiting to see if the parrot knew where he was at. The man then said OK parrot where we at? The parrot looked around and said grocery store. The guys were even more intrigued but still skeptical. One of the guys knew the man didn’t go to church, so the men were like ok we got him now the parrot won’t know where he is. So, the next day on Sunday all the guys were standing at church on the porch.
The man came driving up to church had his parrot. The man walked in the church and sat on the back row of the church. The man wanted to let his parrot have a good view of everyone as they were leaving the church. So, the service continued they sang and prayed, and the preacher preached. At the end of the service all the guys were outside waiting. The parrot had watched as everyone left, and the man made sure he looked around and saw the signs. The man then said OK parrot where we at? The parrot seemed confused and had a weird look on his face. The man then asked again ok Parrot where we at? The parrot was still confused, said Liquor Store. The man then became upset was like no parrot we are at the Church. The parrot was like same people, same people.
Derek told this story because he knew most people in the room were Christians whether they were all in or somewhat in. Derek said one thing is no matter how connected your in with you walk with Jesus is, that one thing that is common for everyone is that it can be tough and a battle to live for Jesus the way God wants us to in this world. Derek shared 1 Peter Chapter 5 verse 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever.
Derek then put everything into fishing terminology for everyone to understand a little better. Derek advised that as a fisherman there is always something you must understand about fishing whether it be the weather conditions, the color of baits, or water conditions to catch fish. Derek reminded us there is always a lure out there that if you present the bait just right you can get that fish to bite. Derek reminded us that we are that fish, and the Devil understands us and knows what bait it takes to find our weakness in life that he can get us to take that bait and turn away from Jesus.
Derek reminds us we must pay attention in life and know our weaknesses and not put ourselves in a position where the devil can lead us away from Christ.
Derek message was powerful, and GOD truly spoke through him, and I encourage you if you weren't there go watch the live video from our meeting on our Texas DFW Fishers of Men Facebook page.
We had one salvation and one rededication. I just want to say that's what it’s all about. Fishing the tournament is a bonus, but people getting led to Jesus, and the fellowship we have with one another is where it is at. Come Join us next month April 6th on Lake Tawakoni!!
