Butler Chain Results: Jan 12, 2008
The 2008 Season Opener for the Florida Central Division of the FOMNTT was held on Saturday January 12 on the Butler Chain located on the outskirts of Orlando. The winning Team of John Cox and Keith Carson with 20.32 pounds, won a total of $2450.00 that included the TRITON GOLD $500 Bonus Money. Fishing on both Lake Down and Sheen, John and Keith used Rattlehead Bait jigs with Producto Lure white grubs in 15 feet of clear water with lots of vegetation. Culling through ten fish, the Team also weighed the Big Fish of the Day – 6.10 lbs.
Fishing in shallower clear water, Jimmy Anderson and Mike Tucker weighed in 16.33 lbs after culling through 10-12 bass on Lake Butler. Jimmie and Mike mainly used Zoom flukes to capture 2nd Place. Also fishing on Butler, the 3rd Place Team of Jason Casteel and David Robertson used Senkos in 16 feet of clear water and hydrilla to catch their 5 fish limit of 14.76. Vince Edwards and Mike Scarborough placed 4th with 12.95 lbs and used black Senkos in a cove off Butler. Casting along a weed line in 3-4 feet of clear water, the Team culled through eight fish.
Rounding out the top ten places were: Brazzell/Davis 12.39, Trenary/Trenary 10.9, Pegues/Pegues 10.57, Deen/Lemons 10.37, Hash/McDevitt 9.73, and Belcher/Miller 9.46. The 2nd Big Fish of the Day went to Clay and Dennis Littleton with a 5.75 lb largemouth.
Tournament Statistics: 117 fish weighed in for a total of 284.45 pounds, morning temperature in mid 60s with sunny skies arriving and reaching upper 70s at weigh-in with 5-10 winds.
A Friday Night Pre-Tournament Meeting was held at First Baptist Church of Central Florida. After a tasty meal of BBQ and trimmings provided by the Members of First Baptist, Steve Hale from Woodstock, GA presented a message asking, “Are you Running the Rat Race or the Right Race?” If our jobs/successes were taken away, who would we be?
Afterwards, door prizes were given out to the Competitors from our faithful Florida Central Division Sponsors - AK Holcomb Construction, Bass Pro Shop Orlando, Gatorland, Kirkman Road Veterinary, and Power Source Marine.
Our next Team Series Tournament is February 16th on the St Johns River using the SR 44 Ramp (Crows Bluff) in Deland. Membership and Entry Forms can be downloaded at www.fomntt.com. To avoid the $25 Late Fee, entries need to be postmarked eight days prior to Tournament. Teams may pay at Friday Night Meeting along with the Late Fee.
The Florida South Division is hosting their 2008 Season Opener on the Kissimmee Chain using Camp Mack on Jan 19th.
