Lake Monroe Results: Feb 6, 2010
The Florida Central Division of the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail held their season’s 2nd Tournament on Lake Monroe on Saturday February 6th. The 50 Teams were welcomed by wind, wind, and more wind going up to 25 to 35 mph. The 6:35 a.m. blast-off was fairly calm as the Teams churned the waters towards the St Johns River and Lake Monroe. When it comes to weight, this Fishery can meet and/or beat the Kissimmee Chain, Harris Chain, and Lake Okeechobee. With 31 five-fish limits caught, nearly all Teams were able to add to the total weight of over 522 lbs weighed-in at the end of the Tournaments.
Even with the wind raging, the Team of Cody Ellis and Carl Stephenson weighed in 20.62 lbs to win First Place. Their 5-fish limit won them not only the 1st Place Check but also the optional 1st Place Bonus Bucks they had previously entered to compete for. Qualifying for an extra $500.00 TRITON Owners Cash for fishing out of a TRITON with a Mercury 225, Cody and Carl used ZOOM soft plastics in shallow water on Lake Monroe and were able to cull through eight fish with the largest around five pounds.
Fishing with the Fishers of Men for the first time, the Team of Ed Bussard and Hank Gallagher weighed in 20.22 lbs to win 2nd Place, along with the 2d Place Bonus Bucks. Fishing on the west side in 2-3 feet of water and vegetation using soft plastics, Ed and Hank culled through 15 bass with the largest being 6 lbs.
After winning 3rd Place at last month’s Harris Chain, Tim and Todd Wagman again took 3rd Place with 18.83 pounds including their big fish of 5.32. This places Tim and Todd at the Top of the roster for the 2010 FLC Division Points Champions after two tournaments. After culling through eleven bass, they weighed in their 5-fish limit that was caught in the south St Johns River using lizards in 2 feet of semi-clear water.
Ken Lucas won 4th Place, with his son Kevin as a legal substitute for his regular partner Travis Totman. Ken and Kevin fished North of Monroe using Lucky Craft and Xcalibur Lures in 10 feet of water over shell bars. They also won the 2nd Big Fish of the Day that weighed 7.11 lbs. Fishing out of a TRITON TR 21 with a Mercury 225, the Team culled through 12 fish for a weight of 18.25 lbs.
Weighing in the Big Fish of the Day at 7.71 pounds, Cecil and Glen Key won 5th Place. Their 17.92 lbs of largemouth was caught on Lake Monroe using Rattle Traps. The top 15 Teams each weighed in over 15 pounds. The Tournament’s 198 largemouth bass that were caught were released back into the open water alive to ensure years of future fishing.
Westview Baptist Church in Sanford welcomed us for the 8th year for the Friday Meeting. Pastor Coffman and the Members treat us like there own as we feasted on the Fish Fry. On Saturday, Westview was starting their Upwards Basketball Program and expecting up to 180 youth to participate. We appreciate their time put forth to serve our Fishermen the night before. After the meal, Glen Rogers from the Seminole Baptist Association brought a brief message on Temptation. How will you handle temptation…what operating system do you live by…not if, but when …temptation comes…handle it with God’s word…not your own reaction to it…or you will fail. Temptation has been around since Adam and Eve, even Jesus Christ was tempted.
Our Division will be hosting the weigh-in at the Home Builders Association of Metro Orlando Tournament on 12 February. We are using the Lake Toho Resort Ramp, formally known as Red’s Fish Camp, at the south end of Kissimmee Park Road in Kissimmee. More info is on the details for that Tournament on the FLC Division website at www.fomntt.com. Fifty Teams have signed up so far for the Guaranteed $1000 1st Place Prize.
The Florida Central Division’s Legacy Series (Adult/Junior) next event is February 20th on the Conway Chain in Orlando. Contact the FLC Legacy Director John Higgins at 407.468.1694 or go to the FOM Legacy Webpage for more information on the Legacy Series. The Conway Chain would be a great place to take a Youth fishing in a Tournament with other competitor of the Adult/Junior range.
Our next Team Series Tournament is March 6th on the Kissimmee Chain using the Camp Mack ramp. The March 5th Friday Night Pre-Tournament Meeting is at Westside Baptist Church and is on Camp Mack Road a couple of miles before you get to the ramp. Last year’s BBQ was fulfilling, and more info is on the details for that Tournament on the FLC Division website at www.fomntt.com.
