Teams from the Florida Central and North Divisions of the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail held the Florida State Championship on Jun19th on the St Johns River using Ed Stone Park west of Deland. Blasting-off at safe light, the Teams evenly divided up with some going North and the rest going South.
At the 3 p.m. weigh-in, Team David Martindill and Glenn Welborn brought 17.85 pounds of largemouth to the scales to win 1st Place. David and Glenn fished the east and west sides of Lake Boresford using Terminator spinnerbaits & Texas Rigged worms in 3ft of dingy water. Their largest bass was 5.30 lbs. Second Place was awarded to Wayne Lindsey and Dusty McDevitt for their weight of 17.82. David and Dusty made a trip to Rodman Reservoir and used PRODUCTO CRAW in 4 feet of heavy mats. Third Place went to Ken and Kevin Lucas for their catch of 14.93 pounds, including the Big Fish of the Day at 6.77 lbs. The Father/Son Team went south to Lake Monroe and used Strike King lures in 4-6 feet of water. Rick Ledford and Bob McEarchern weighed in a 14.28 pounds 5-fish limit to win Fourth Place. Rick and Bob went south to Lake Harney to use Creme worms and Bitter's Shad lures in clear water with eel grass. Cecil Key fishing with his son Jeff, won the 2nd big Fish Award with a 5.97 lb bass.
The Tournament was a great way to end the Florida Central Division's 2010 Season prior to the Southeast Regional FOM Championship in November. The Florida North Division has their last Divisional Tournament on July 19th on Lake Rousseau. More information can be found at www.fomntt.com.
A Friday Night Pre-Tournament Meeting was held on 18 Jun at the First Assembly of Deland, 551 S. Kepler Rd in Deland. A great meal was served to the competitors and their guest prior to the start of the meeting. The Vice President of the FOMNTT, Bobby Eads made some brief comments on the change of leadership in both Florida Divisions with the new Directors for 2011. Jim Trenary (Central) and Jon Rogers (North) will respectively become the Directors for the 2011 Season. Both Jim and Jon come from a long history of fishing in Florida and will continue to provide competitive Tournaments for the Florida fishermen. Jim Trenary spoke to the attendees after wards about building true relationship. A good foundation begins with Trust, Forgiveness, and Sacrifices. He also used Proverb 12:18 as a reference to guard the tongue against cutting remarks, but to be wise in your words to bring healing.
