A Beautiful day in Gods Great Outdoors

Fishers of Men, Alabama South had their third team tournament on April 17, 2010 in Camden, AL out of Ellis Landing. The Friday night meeting was hosted by Camden Baptist Church again this year. As always the men at Camden Baptist did a wonderful job. These men know how to fix up some blackened catfish and all of the fixings to go with them. Oh, they didn’t forget the bread pudding. It is always a big hit. We had a little confusion on the speaker and wound up with two there to speak and God had it all under control. Tommy Puckett from the Alabama Baptist office in Montgomery was there to speak and it just so happens that he is one of the people that came to Brewton to talk with me and Sharon and some other people about starting up the Alabama South Division of Fishers of Men. It was really great to get to see him and to hear him bring part of the message. I had asked Wesley Hicks to speak as well. Wesley fishes team when he can and also has a Legacy partner. His home church in Jackson, AL has hosted two of our past Legacy Friday night meetings. Tommy brought the first half of the message and he spoke about are you going to heaven or hell. The importance of how we live to whether or not we are going to go to heaven or hell. His scripture was from Matthew 17, 25-27. Wesley got up to bring the second half and the Lord just brought it all together. Wesley spoke from Romans 12-1. He talked about the presentation we need to be using and used several fishing presentation styles for examples. All of this ties together, to determine whether we will be going to heaven or hell. We need to be sure we live our lives in the way that God would have us to live, rather than following the devil and spending an eternity in hell. Thank you Tommy and Wesley for bringing the words that our Lord place on your hearts and in your mouth. We had approximately 63 people at the meeting Friday night with no professions of faith and 2 rededications. We had 26 teams represented at the meeting Friday night.
Saturday morning we were greeted with a beautiful morning. Safelight came early and we blasted off the 27 boats we had for the tournament. Congratulations to the team of Chris Ikner and Greg Shehan. The took first place with 5 fish that weighed 14.94 Lbs. Greg was unable to fish and Chris had a sub with him. They caught their fish on plastics in deep water. Congratulations to the team of James Miles and Gerald Portis. They took second place with 5 fish that weighed 14.15 Lbs. They caught their fish on rattle traps, lizards and topwater baits. Congratulations to the team of Larry Bullock and Roger Caldwell. The took third place with 5 fish that weighed 13.74 Lbs. Their fish were caught on swimming jigs and spinner baits and were close to the landing. Congratulations to Dale Westmoreland and Lance Youngblood. They took fourth place with 5 fish that weighed 13.63 Lbs. They had to leave during the weigh-in so I did not get to ask them what they caught their fish on. Congratulations to the team of Rich Cornelius and Steve Graham. They took fifth place with 5 fish that weighed 13.45 Lbs. and took first big fish with a fish that weighed 4.64 Lbs. They caught their fish on plastics and frogs in very shallow water. Congratulations to the team of Don and Fay Goines. They caught the second big fish that weighed 4.07 Lbs. Fay caught it on a watermelon candy lizard. All total their were 132 fish weighed in that weighed a total of 268.74 Lbs. That came out to an average of 2.04 Lbs per fish. There were 25 limits weighed in and the other two teams weighed in fish also. All 27 teams weighed in fish. All in all it was a great weekend and a great day to be in Gods Great Outdoors. Our next event is this weekend, April 24, 2010 at Hubbards Landing in Baldwin County. The Friday night meeting will be at the landing and will start at 5:00PM. This is a Legacy event. We are having Hamburgers and Hot Dogs and will do everything we can to get everyone out of there before it gets dark. Our next team trail event will be on May 15, 2010 in Demopolis. That meeting will be hosted again this year by Thomaston Baptist Church in Thomaston, AL. If you are interested in fishing this weekends Legacy event and are just now finding out about us you can pay at the meeting Friday night. NO ENTRIES ARE TAKEN THE MORNING OF THE TOURNAMENT. If you have seen the brochure you will find it written in red ink. On the next team trail event remember to be sure you have your entry postmarked by the Friday before the Friday night meeting in order the avoid the late fee. The date would be May 7, 2010.
