Alabama Central Legacy Division held our first Friday night meeting at Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Holtville. They fed a crowd of 82 people a delicious meal of chicken, cream potatoes, and green beans. Ashley Miller, student minister, was our guest speaker. The introduction was a video with different scenarios. In one scenario a father always got home after his son was asleep and in another a father took his son fishing and spent time with him. The speaker’s point was that if you spend time with your children they have the opportunity to talk to you about heaven and salvation. There was one recommitment.

Leading into this weekend the weather reports were for potentially severe weather. Saturday morning dawned with heavy rain and much lightening. By blast off time the lightening had dispersed but heavy rain continued throughout the day. Isn’t it amazing that despite the awful weather conditions, the youth anglers had high spirits and smiles abounded. Even when they came in for brief periods because of lightening, once it cleared they were raring to go back to the water. We had started off the night before with 21 teams, however, one father got called in to work. The remaining 20 youth teams brought 97 fish to the scale weighting in at 241.76 pounds. Of our 20 teams, 19 had a five fish limit. First place and 1st bonus bucks went to the father/son team of Eric/Ryan Morris with 15.59 pounds. This team also had 2nd big fish at 3.91 lbs. Second place and 2nd bonus bucks went to another father/son team, Mike/Jordan Cartee with 15.54 pounds. Third place and 3rd bonus bucks went to the team of Allen Yarborough and Chris Hoitt with 14.84 pounds. Big fish at 4.13 lbs. was brought to the scales by the father/daughter team of Gerald/Gabrielle Humber.

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”Proverbs 22:6

I also want to give a heartfelt thank you to Jim and Carol Browder, my daughter, Laurie, and my wife, Pat, for their devotion to the ministry and making this tournament special for the youth despite the poor conditions.
