Welcome folks to another season of Indiana fishing. Indiana North kicked off its 2010 season at Summit Lake in New Castle Indiana on April 24. It was great to see the normal crowd along with some new faces. I met some of the new teams and will do my best to meet all of you by season end. The 29 teams met at Summit Lake Bait and Tackle where they were treated to an awesome cookout prepared by divisional chef’s Tony Goff and Ron True. A big thanks also goes out to all those that brought desserts and salads. I want to again thank the folks at Summit Lake Bait and Tackle for opening their barn for us and offering discounts to the anglers.

As it was the first tournament of the year, our director Sharon Tighe took some time to recognize our new anglers as well as those that fished in the National Championship. Indiana North had the biggest percentage of fishermen/division at the tournament. Sharon also brought us our message dealing with forgiveness. She confessed that there are plenty of us out there that are more qualified than her but the Lord put her in this position and could we forgive her shortcomings. Well I don’t know about the rest of you but I think she is more than qualified to do the job. But a good message nonetheless. I am sure there is at least one person in all of our lives we should ask for forgiveness.

Most of the discussion was around the National Championship and the pending storm front blowing in. We all figured we would be starting over in the morning so why worry about it. The next day the 29 teams “blasted” off in search of the heaviest fish in the lake. Thankfully the severe storms that were predicted held off. We had wind and some rain but it could have been a lot worse. As the weigh in began at 3:00 pm the only thing that was consistent across the board was that it had been a tough day. In fact only one limit came across the weigh in stage.

Jeff Dullaghan and Jim Hardie brought in 4 fish, anchored by a 5.32 lb. fish, to secure the win with a 9.73 lb total. Their fish fell to a pink, yes pink, spinner bait made by Strictly Bass. This spinner bait is also a tribute to breast cancer and 10% of the proceeds go to finding a cure. Ask Jeff or Jim about it. Charlie Mounds and Steve Estridge brought in the only 5 fish limit which was 6.46 lbs and good enough for second place. Third place went to the team of Brock Smith (Sub.) and HR Smith with 4 fish that tipped the scales at 5.99 lbs. The team of Dan Miller and Danny Spratt only brought one fish to weigh it but it was a 5.52 lb female good enough for fourth place and first place Big Bass honors. This fish fell to a methiolade Senko pitched tight to the bank. Now who throws a methiolade Senko? Realy fellas? You may not want to give us your secrets but at least come up with Green Pumpkin Senko. Rounding out the top 5 was the father/son team of Steve and Kyle Neal. They wrangled 4 fish into the boat for 5.35 lbs. Second Big Bass honors went to our winners with the 5.32 lb fish and third place Big Bass went to the team of Carl Waddington and Dan Schuster with a 2.62 lb fish. I heard of fish being caught from the main lake with drop shots to the back of pockets on frogs.

*Editors Note: Before Sharon or Brody get hate mail. Sharon called me yesterday to apologize for awarding Brody McWilliams the third place Big Bass Honors. While I do appreciate Anglers World giving that award, the area that Dan and I both live would have made it difficult to use so we would have given it to someone in the area anyway. Per Sharon’s Friday night message we have to forgive……..she was putting me to the test. I forgive you Sharon and go use it Brody. Buy some methiolade Senko’s that seem to work so well.

Our next tournament will be held on Raccoon Lake on May 15. I look forward to seeing you all there. With some luck the weather and water will hold steady and the fish will be up shallow.
