Raccoon Lake Results: May 15, 2010
The second tournament for the Indiana North division was held at Cecil Harden Reservoir, better known as Raccoon Lake on May 15, 2010. The 30 teams were treated to an awesome cookout prepared by divisional chef’s Tony Goff and Ron True. Thanks fellows. I would like to thank all those that brought desserts as well.
Garry Frick delivered the message from the book of Psalms. Garry told us how he thought he had true happiness in the boat business but realized that true happiness does not always mean money, fame or success. True happiness is when you are in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and in fellowship with his followers. We can all take that to heart. Are we truly happy or are we trying to chase down what WE think will make us happy. Glad to have you back Garry.
With all of the rain that other areas of the Midwest has experienced in the last month or so it was hard to believe that the lake was about 2 feet below summer pool. Indiana has been spared the torrential rain and for that we are thankful. The normal pre tournament chatter was on seemed to be just that. Small talk about other bodies of water or what has been going on off the water. I figured everyone was holding their cards tight. Saturday morning the weather was a little cool but not too bad for mid-may. After the Morning Prayer the teams headed out to see if they could bag five 16” fish. At 3:00 the teams began checking in and bringing their fish to the scales. I have to say, this year was better than last yr. when only 7 teams had fish. While limits were tough to come by most teams found at least a couple of fish that would weigh.
The Adult/Jr. team of Terry and Brody McWilliams brought in the only 5 fish limit that weighed 13.37 lbs. and was good enough for first place. I forgot to ask what they caught their fish on but since it is Terry I am going to go out on a limb and say Stupid Tube. Just a guess. I hope he didn’t use my gift certificate to Anglers World to buy those. Triton Owners Ken Synesael and George Diehl brought in 3 fish that weighed 9.13 lbs and captured second place. They also had second big bass with a 4.07 lb kicker. Third place was the team of Rick Randolph and Jerry Lesley that had two fish that went 8.35. Since we sat next to them in the parking lot to tie up I know that they were catching fish on jigs. I overheard Rick tell Jerry that he didn’t care what he put on his 4 rods as long as they were jigs. They also had the big bass of the tournament with a 5.82 toad that they caught on……you guessed it a jig. Indiana north competitors Charlie Monds and Steve Estridge were right behind them with three fish for 7.55 lbs. Fifth place went to the Triton owner team of Dan Schuster and Carl Waddington. They boated 2 fish that went 6.09 lbs and had third big bass with a 3.99 lb fish. Yep they were caught on a jig. The final place in the money went to the sixth place team of Bill and Roxanne Kehl. Roxanne boated two fish that went 6.46 lbs.
Our next tournament will be at Geist Reservoir on June 26. If you are in need of some practice time, June 12 there will be a benefit tournament for Dave Coffin. Get in touch with Tony Goff for additional information. My final reminder is if you are working with lead based paint you better be certified. Tip from Uncle Bill.
