Green River Lake Results: Mar 27, 2010
The Kentucky South Central Division traveled to beautiful Green River Lake for the second tournament of the 2010 season. Although the division had never been to Green before, anglers were ready to give it a try as Green River Lake is one of the best kept secrets in the state for big bass.
Unfortunately for several anglers the big fish bit the hook on Friday's practice day with several anglers reporting fish over 5 pounds and two boats landing 8 pounders with the pictures to prove it. Although Green River Lake was not at its prime due to the extremely cold winter, 35 teams blasted off into the cold morning in search of a limit of keepers.
Most of the teams were able to find some fish, especially the top two teams of Chad Peercy/Dean Turner and Mike Devere and Jared Hembree. These two teams found themseves fishing the same stretch of bank and pulling just under 40 pounds from that area. Peercy and Turner brought home first place with a total catch of 19.03 with a 5.33 largemouth to secure first place honors. Devere and Hembree coudn't manage a kicker to move them into first but managed a 5 fish limit weighing 18.62 pounds. Both teams reported catching several more fish, but had their best 5 before 10 am. Rounding out the top 5 were the father son team Young and Young with 5 fish weighing 17.52, Bowling and Combs with 15.53 and Corbin and Upchurch with a total weight of 14.85.
Big fish of the tournament was a monster 7.80 largemouth caught by the team of Farley and Eubank and also earned them the Day's Boat Sales Big Fish Bonus of the tournament.
Winners of the Cumberland Electric Free Entry Fee for the next tournament was Pat Eichman and the Pittsburg Marine Free Entry Fee went to Colby Arnold. A huge thank you to our local sponsors.
As always the highlight of the tournament weekend was the Friday Night pre-tournament meeting. Elk Horn Baptist Church in Campbellsville hosted over 70 of our anglers and families. With spring in the air, the church fired up the grill to feed the hungry anglers with plenty of sides and wonderful desserts. The youth praise team led the anglers in worship followed by a timely message by youth pastor Greg Estes. Three people recommitted their life to Christ at the meeting.
The January Cumberland tournament was also rescheduled for June 5 and moved to Barren River lake. Join us on April 24 at Barren River Lake for the 3rd tournament of the season. Remember it's still not too late to come out and fish with us to still be eligable for the regional championship.
