Marlan and Debbie Brown reel in win at Vermilion
Food, fun, fellowship, and fishing were the name of the game for the second tournament on the Central Illinois Fishers of Men team series schedule.
The weekend began Friday Apr. 30 with a delicious meal prepared by a great group of women at CrossRoads Christian Church in Danville. Following dinner an inspiring message including questions to ask yourself to determine if you are saved, and what we can do to become true Christians, was delivered by the pastor of the church, Miles Clark. Everyone enjoyed themselves, and we thank CrossRoads for their hospitality.
Wind and overcast skies greeted the anglers Saturday morning at the launch ramp at Lake Vermillion, a 1,000 acre lake in Danville loaded with standing timber, laydowns, riprap, and evidently bass. Although keeper fish were hard to come by. All teams reported catching nice numbers of fish, most falling short of the 15 inch minimum limit. Some teams however did locate some nice bass. Starting with Marlan and Debbie Brown who took first place overall. The couple earned the victory with a nice sack of four fish weighing 10.71 pounds, which included a fish of 3.78 lbs that was good enough for second big bass. They collected $752.50 for their efforts. Cliff and Zach Brooks managed four fish for 9.9 pounds giving them second place and $367.50. Derek Coon and Jacob Bowers were the only team to manage a five fish limit which weighed 9.65 pounds earning them third place. The big bass award worth $90.00 went to Steve and Missy Unsworth for a nice 4.64 pound bruiser. A good time was had by all, and the ten teams managed to weigh a total of 20 fish for 47.76 pounds.
