Fishers of Men Illinois Central Division takes Lake Springfield by storm
A severe thunderstorm rolled across Lake Springfield just as teams finished weighing in but it couldn't dampen the spirits of Marlan and Debbie Brown. The husband and wife team wrapped up their second victory in a row weighing in 5 bass for 12.83 pounds.
The weekend kicked off with the Friday night pre-tournament meeting at the Lakeside Christian Church in Springfield, where the anglers were treated to a great meal and an informative message about preparedness. The door prizes were a big hit as usual, and the practical, yet very fashionable, goggles were a hot item among raffle winners.
Saturday the ten teams woke early to be at the ramp for the 5:05 blast off time, and it was well worth it. Lake Springfield proved to be a good fishery with eight of the ten teams weighing in a limit of five fish. While there were no real lunkers caught, all teams reported catching good numbers of strong, healthy fish. The Brown's collected $752.50 for their first place finish and second big bass, weighing in at 3.38 pounds. Finishing second overall was the team of Derek Coon and Jacob Bowers who's limit weighing 12.74 pounds was good for a $367.50 payday. First place big bass and a check of $105.00 went to Stephen Piatt and Bruce Schmidt for their 3.57 pound fish. Despite the hasty clean-up, and run for cover caused by the storm, the weekend proved to be an enjoyable one with 48 bass taken to the scales weighing a total of 116.68 pounds.
We hope to see everyone at the next event which is scheduled for July 10, at Lake Shelbyville.
