The Home Builders Association (HBA) was an OPEN Tournament. Let me tell you before hand, it was wet and windy at the end of the day. Fifty three boats entered the competition. The morning blast-off had a breeze with a chill in the air, but the weatherman was correct today, with the wind picking up by 12:00 to about 20-35 mph wind and what was a light sporadic rain turned into a steady rainfall throughout the later day and weigh-in.

Plenty of fish were caught earlier in the morning, and it took 19.45 pounds to win the 1st Place Prize of $1000.00. Roy Thomas and Robert Martin weighed in their five-fish limit that included a 6.83 lb largemouth to win the HBA Tournament. That Big Fish was the largest thru most of the weighin until near the end. In $400.00 Second Place, Tim Burton and Robert Fields had a combined five-fish limit of 17.17 lbs including the Big Fish of the Day at 8.31 that gave them an additional $400.00. A tense moment came when the Scott Paul and Kevin Walton brought a heavy sack to weigh. Looking at taking over 2nd Place, the scales finally settled down and Scott and Kevin's final weight was 17.16, just one-hundredth under the 2nd Place, which gave the Team the $300.00 Third Place.

The $200.00 Fourth Place was won by Kyle Walters and Jim Folks with 16.67, followed by 5th Place Dale Wolfsskill and Doug Steatter with 15.74 lbs. Rod and Reel Combos were awarded to the 5th & 6th Places, with Bass Pro Shops gift cards being awarded to Places 7-10th Place. Sixth thru Tenth Place were Swafford/Hang 14.94, Hughes/Thrasher 13.97, Koser/Miller 13.81, Foster/Hughes 12.41, & Gilley/Jenkins 11.64.

During the weighin, the HBA Sponsors provided a BBQ lunch for the Competitors.

The Florida Central Division’s Legacy Series (Adult/Junior) next event is February 20th on the Conway Chain in Orlando. Contact the FLC Legacy Director John Higgins at 407.468.1694 or go to the FOM Legacy Webpage for more information on the Legacy Series. The Conway Chain would be a great place to take a Youth fishing in a Tournament with other competitor of the Adult/Junior range.

Our next Team Series Tournament is March 6th on the Kissimmee Chain using the Camp Mack ramp. The March 5th Friday Night Pre-Tournament Meeting is at Westside Baptist Church and is on Camp Mack Road a couple of miles before you get to the ramp. Last year’s BBQ was fulfilling, and more info is on the details for that Tournament on the FLC Division website at www.fomntt.com.

Local Sponsors for the Florida Central Division are: Bass Pro Shops Orlando, Deep South Fishing Rods, Gatorland, Kirkman Road Veterinary, and Producto Lures.
