Seminole GA-South Results: Apr 24, 2010
Four time Seminole winners, and 2009 Southeast Regional Champions Steve Stewart and Johnny Creel, couldn’t get to their preferred spot, due to high winds and rough water, and had to change to their back up plan. They wound up with 19 pounds, Carolina Rigging with a one ounce weight.
New kid on the block Zach Ranew and his partner Ken Jones, fishing their first season with Fishers of Men looked like they might take first with a nice stringer that weighed 21.51, including their biggest fish, at 6.68. The nastier the weather got, the better their bite was, and they were actually culling 3 pounders on buzz baits before 11:00.
2009 Reigning Georgia South Points Champions, Steve Strickland and Stephen McCord, were holding on to a nine point lead in the 2010 Points Race, before heading down to Seminole. Maintaining their nine point lead would be a huge plus for them, and give them a great shot at back to back championships, knowing that the final tournament would be back on one of their favorite lakes, Lake Eufaula. It was obvious that they would have a strong finish when they pulled two five pounders out of their sack, to see which was the biggest. They thought they had about 20 pounds and a good shot at second place, and wound up with 22.11 and their fourth first place win, since joining the trail in 2009.
It was another less than perfect (McNASTY) tournament day, starting out with torrential rain from sun up ‘til after ten, including an intense lightening storm that kept them on their toes. McCord said he believes that while a lot of the big fish have already spawned, his biggest fish appeared fat and sassy, probably still decorating the nursery. Although they didn’t share a lot of detailed information, they did note that at least one of their big fish came while they were slinging toads.
Charlie Whittle wound up with the tournament’s big bass which weighed in at a whopping 7.11. He explained how his partner, Allen Burkhalter, held them over a spot that was holding a big fish and Charlie scored using a Pig-n-Jig. They held a little prayer meeting during the storm and had most of their success after the worst had passed by.
