Story by Philip Starks
As member of Arkansas South Division I would like to thank Pastor Scott Gilbreth and First Assembly Of God in Dumas for hosting our second event of the year. This Church has been a gracious host to us for the past several years and now Pastor Scott has also stepped up and is the Director for the Arkansas South Division. As always we where fed two ways at our Friday night meetings. We were given great meal of barbeque, baked beans, french fries, slaw and as always the fine deserts that are prepared by the ladies at the church. But more importantly the 30 teams and family members were fed a by the Word of God as Pastor Scott shared with one scripture the simple plan of salvation using Romans 6:23. Because of sin we all have earned death (wages) but God gives us the gift of forgiveness and eternal life in and through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. As the result of the message God moved on the hearts of 2 for salvation and 3 rededications. Amen! We also had a special time of prayer before the meeting as three of our members were dealing with tragic news. Brandon Cruce's stepmother which is also Caleb Lane's and Jason Wilsons Aunt had a blood vessel burst in the brain and had to be sent to UAMS for emergency surgery. At the age of 47 she passed away on Saturday afternoon. Please continue to pray for them and the family.
As dawn broke the 30 boats were sent out to their favorite spots on the Arkansas in search of the winning bag. We had a beautiful day as far as sunshine the winds picked up and the trolling batteries faded fast. As the spawn approaches hopes were high that big stringers would come to the weigh-in. We were not disappointed as 2 sacks over 18 lbs and 4 over 17 lbs were weighed. Taking first place was the team of Sam Eastwood and Chip Hawkins with 18.69 lbs, second place went to the team of Glenn Eastwood and Chris Byars with 18.31 lbs. and third went to the team of Jason Burt and Foster Mitchell with 17.99 lbs. First place for big bass was Glenn Maxwell and Gary Smith with a 6.99 toad and not far behind was Mitch Miller with the second big bass with a 6.93 lb lunker. We had 20 boats that weighed in over 10 lbs.
