Bishop and Miller Win Points Title; Bowen and Walker Win Tourney With 19.66 lbs. - Earn Hook Some Bass Big Stringer of the Year Award!!!

The Kentucky West Division wrapped up the season at Barren River Lake this weekend. Hot weather and hot water were on the order as surface temperatures near 90 degrees have been the norm on the lake lately. Since the massive flooding this past spring, Barren has been over summer pool on a steady drawdown, but it finally reached summer pool this past week. The sudden shut down of the current seemed to turn the bite off for most of the week, but the weekend would prove to bring better fishing.

Before the tourney came the meeting. The First Free Will Baptist Church in Glasgow opened their doors and welcomed around 65 folks for the Friday night meeting. Director Joel Franks and his staff prepared a fish fry including fries, hush puppies, coleslaw, and baked beans. After the meal came chocolate and lemon cake for all who still had room. With full tummies, everyone settled back to listen to the inspirational message.

One of our staff members, 16 year old Josh Butler, delivered the message. Josh has been preaching for about 2 years now and was excited to speak to the Fishers of Men group. He opened his Bible to Philippians 2 and shared with us the basic idea of following Christ - being a good servant. Following the message, one angler recommitted his life to the Lord!

Saturday morning dawned with some cloud cover, a little cooler temperatures, and a pleasant southerly breeze to make the day quite enjoyable to be on the water. Most anglers reported that the bite was a little tough, but nearly everybody weighed in fish.

The biggest bag of the day belonged to defending points champions, Jeremy Bowen and Mike Walker. Their 19.66 pound stringer also earned them the Hook Some Bass Lures Big Stringer of the Year award. This brought them a nice tackle pack apiece and plaques to commemorate their accomplishment. Though they were tight lipped about their location, Walker did report catching their fish on big worms. Their limit also included the big bass of the day - a 5.61 pound largemouth. With their Bonus Bucks win included, they earned a total of $1187.50.

Coming in second place with 16.17 pounds of largemouth and spotted bass was the team of Mike Daleo and Daniel Scott. They milked a deep off shore hump all day long to land their limit, culling 5 times to achieve their total weight. All of their fish came on 10 inch worms. With their second place Bonus Bucks finish included, Daleo and Scott won a total of $600.50.

Rounding out the top three was the team of Scott Wasson and Brent Wasson. They were able to land 15.04 pounds of largemouth bass on Strike King Series 6 XD crankbaits. Brent reported actually catching two of their keepers on the same cast as they fired up the school on Barren's deep points. They received $415.00 for their efforts.

Lee Bishop and Mike Miller have dominated the division points race the entire season from their opening win on Kentucky Lake all the way to the finish this weekend. They landed 10.22 pounds to secure their spot in the National Championship by 17 points.
