Bass Pro Shops Largemouth Results: Mar 14, 2010
The 2010 Bass Pro Shops Largemouth Tournament held up to its name with providing many Largemouth Bass to weigh-in on March 14 at the Outdoors World Orlando Store on International Drive. This is the 2nd BPS Largemouth Tournament in as many years, and as the Promotional Manager, Mr. Greg Finenco related to the crowd “This is the grass roots of the start of bigger events...” with hopes of many more years of this Tournament.
A Saturday Night Team meeting was held at the Orlando BPS where the Teams were brought up to date on entries, rules, and a time to meet the other competitors. John Higgins from the Fishers of Men spoke briefly on the Legacy Series for Adult/Junior Teams with their next event on March 27th during the St. Cloud Spring Fling on East Lake Toho. The Director of the Central Florida Bass Anglers, Mr. Neil Lazarus then spoke of their Club's activities, and also the Teen Sport Fishing Anglers which promotes spending time fishing with Youth to provide a safe and educational experience. Prior to the end of the Meeting, the Competitors were treated with many Bass Pro Shops door prizes.
Changing to daylight savings time at 2 am., the 25 Teams lost an hour of sleep, but were eager to get out on the Butler Chain prior to the winds picking up. Th Butler Chain is about a fifteen minute drive from the Bass Pro Shop where the weigh-in was held at 2 pm. The wind swiftly moved up to 20-25 mph but the sun was shining on all the Fishermen.
At 2:20 the weigh-in began with Daniel Lanier and Joe Ventrello bringing a 3-fish limit to the scales weighing 17.42, including a Big Fish that weighed 9.02. Daniel and Joe mainly fished on lake Tibet using Bitter's Twintail Lizard in 2 feet on water. Their weight won them the 3rd Place $1000.00 Award.
Joe Clements and Don Eady weighed-in a 3-fish limit of 18.01 pounds, including the Big Fish of the Day...a 9.56 lb Largemouth. The Team used Bass Pro Shops Tournament Trick Worms on a Carolina rig on Lake Butler to win the 2nd Place Prize of $2000.00 and the Big Fish Pot of $345.00 in cash. Don and Joe were fishing in 8-12 feet of very clear water with grass and were able to cull through 12-15 bass.
The 1st Place Prize of $3000.00 was won by John Brazzell and Josh Davis with a 3-fish limit weighing 18.04 pounds. On Lake Tibet, John and Josh were sight fishing and throwing Git'Em Sugar using Castaway Rods in 3-6 feet of clear water. The Team culled through 10 fish with their largest being 9.37 lbs.
Forth Place went to Bob Greathouse and Dean Odegaard with 17.21 lbs, followed by the Fifth Place Team of Keith Carson and John Cox with 16.56 pounds.
With a 3-fish Limit Rule, fifteen of the Teams weighed in over 10 pounds each. Congratulations to all the Competitors.
