04/09/10, Guntersville, AL… Day Two of the FOM National Championship, presented by Abu Garcia, greeted the anglers with mild temperatures, light to moderate gusting winds, and clear blue skies. Several teams’ patterns vaporized as bass went on the move due to the passing cool front. However, fishing still proved to be very productive for most of the field, with 626 fish, weighing 2112.43 lbs, crossing the scales. 120 teams scored on five-fish limits. So far, in two days of fierce competition, 1324 bass have been brought to the scales, weighing 4481.76 lbs.

Teams who failed to make today’s cut to Saturday’s field of 29 teams explained that their fish came in numerous ways. While most, worked jigs and plastics in and around the beds in one to six feet of water, a few competitors revealed working channel cuts and ledges in deeper water with crankbaits and carolina rigs.

Although not enlightening us as to their methods, Tennessee East anglers, Michael Smith and Brian Jordan continue to lead the tournament with 49.22 lbs. Brian and Michael brought in five additional fish today that weighed 22.27 lbs.

Shawn Holly and Robert Thomsen, Iowa, moved up from third to second place with an additional 23.79 lbs which included a 7.54 lbs kicker fish, thus giving the accomplished pair 47.95 lbs in two days of competition.

Bringing in a phenomenal, tournament high thus far, 27.16lb bag of fish, Kenneth and Deloris Shumate moved up from 31st place to third overall, with 46.72lbs. One of this North Carolina Piedmont Male/Female team’s fish weighed in at 7.17.

Always perennial favorites, Wayne Frierson and Ronnie Mueller jumped ten places with today’s 24.02 lbs that also contained the $250.00 Day-2 Second Big Fish, weighing 8.08 lbs. Ronnie and Wayne, South Carolina Lowcountry, now have a tournament total of 46.12 lbs.

Consistant anglers, Phillips Eakes and Dan Glosson, moved up from eleventh to fifth with today’s 22.48, one of which weighed 7.06 lbs. The North Carolina Central competitors now have 45.31 lbs for the first two days of the event.

Tim Dixon and his partner Kenneth Cummins earned $500.00 for their 9.41 lbs, Day 2, 1st Big Fish. Tim and Ken, Texas Central, had to weigh in early because of mechanical problems, yet still managed to reap a 22.97 lb limit, thus giving them a 2-day total of 43.00 lbs and the 12th place slot.

The field has now been set for the third and final day of competition. 29 teams will blastoff Saturday morning with their eyes on the top prize, as all will share in the $100,000.00 payout, but each will be striving for the $45,000.00, 2010 Triton 20XS along with the title of being the new Fishers Of Men National Champions. The final weighin will begin at approximately 3:00 pm.
