White & Evans Win Lake D’Arbonne Fishers of Men Event

Area anglers of the North Central Louisiana Division of the Fishers of Men returned to the waters on Saturday, March 17 for their second tournament of the five-tournament season. Launching from Ludwig Brothers Marine on Lake D’Arbonne shortly after daybreak, the field of competitors set out for their favorite holes with hopes of claiming a share of the $2,575 to be distributed at the end of the day.

When the weigh-in scales closed just after 3 p.m., Brent White and Eric Evans (of Monroe and West Monroe, respectively) emerged with the victory. Flipping cypress trees in three to five feet of water produced nearly a dozen fish for the team over the course of the day. However, it was a ChatterBait (which combines the flash of a spinnerbait with a jig profile) that catapulted the team to the top of the leaderboard when White sank the bait’s hook into the 5.77 pound big bass of the day. Posting a cumulative five-fish weight of 16.49 pounds, the duo earned $1,423 for their first place finish.

The second place team of John Ross (Farmerville) and Patrick Daniel (Rayville) started the day off with success, having their limit by 8:30 a.m. Despite the good start, the anglers’ persistent search for bigger fish to upgrade their stringer paid off just an hour before weigh-in when Daniel landed the 5.34 pound second place big bass of the day on a rogue. In total the team’s five-fish catch for the day of 15.40 pounds produced winnings of $668.

Rounding out the top three of tournament places was the team of Trey McGuire and Jon Richardson. Coupled with their fourth place finish on Lake Claiborne in February, the Ruston anglers’ 12.74 pound catch on Lake D’Arbonne pushed the team to the top of the season points standings. Other money winners in the tournament included winners of the “just out of the money” consolation prize—Ken Lantrip and Chad Pody (5 fish, 11.97 pounds).

On the Friday night prior to the event, Mt. Tabor Baptist Church of Farmerville hosted the pre-tournament meeting in which anglers, tournament staff, friends and family members had the opportunity to hear an inspiring message presented by Chad Merrill, pastor at First West’s Fairbanks campus in Sterlington. At the conclusion of the message, two anglers made a recommitment of his life to Christ.

The North Central Louisiana Fishers of Men division will hold the next tournament on Saturday, April 21 on Caney Lake. Area anglers will also want to mark their calendars for Saturday, April 7, when the first annual Big Bass Open tournament will be held on Lake D’Arbonne. No Fishers of Men membership is required to participate and the event will include a Family Fun Night on the preceding Friday and hourly weigh-ins throughout the tournament day broadcast live by Z-107.5.
