April 20,2012 meeting
The 3rd event of the N.C. Central team series was hosted by Blessed Hope Baptist Church of Henderson, N.C. The team series did not visit massive Kerr Lake, aka, Buggs Island in the 2011 season so there was much excitement about coming back.Pastor Donnie Perkinson and youth Pastor John Owens and their many volunteers provided a great meal of barbeque chicken, fried chicken and all the fixings along with some great desserts.
This was a unique meeting to say the least. We arrived at the church around 3:30pm. Anthony Yarborough with his son and dad (Donald) met us there. We had gotten the trailer unloaded and was in the process of putting up banners, setting up equipment when everything came to a sudden halt.
Someone driving an old truck ran off the road near the church taking out a pole pole and power lines.
So no electricity! Anthony, Donald and the volunteers at the church moved quickly to get generators and even porta johns. The lights were low and it was a little warm but the meeting began on time.
Now listen to this----the driver wrecked the truck because a black snake had gotten into his truck and came out from under his seat and was trying to crawl up his leg.
Yes, the snake was real! Anthony Yarborough and Johnny Walker saw it. That old serpent "Satan" tried to disrupt the gospel being shared but to no avail. Gary Chambers, one of our local sponsors for Fishers of Men brought the message about being prepared not only for tournaments but also most importantly for eternal life. One of our fishermen, Anthony Yarborough shared his fanastic voice with us in song. We had seven rededications and one angler with questions about the Christian life.

Tournament
Sat.morning dawned clear with a light wind. It was a beautiful morning for blast off. Kerr Lake has been recovering from LMBV. As the weigh-in started, it looks like the lake is rebounding in numbers. We had twenty five 5 fish limits out of the 50 teams that were fishing.
David and Larry Jacobs broke out of a slump and moved to the top with a limit at 13.88 lbs. caught on jigs and spinnerbaits. The win was worth $1,170.00. 2nd place was Aaron (Shannon) Stewart and Timothy George with 12.78 lbs which included the first place big fish weighing 3.78 lbs. Ricky Petty and Jason Michael were 3rd with 12.02 lbs.
Father and son team of Steve and Horton Upchurch with 11.86 lbs caught on C-rig came in 4th place.Rounding out the top five were Samuel Fisher and Aaron Fisher with 11.81 lbs.caught on trick worms. It seems there were many patterns to catch a limit today.
The points race has tightened up with Aaron(Shannon) Stewart and Timothy George taking over the lead with Roger Clary and Merle Knott just 2 points behind. The next event at Jordan Lake on May 4-5 should be interesting.
