The FOM Arkansas South Division met for its fourth tournament of the year on Friday night May 22nd at the Assembly of God church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. We were honored to have our regional director Danny Smith in attendance. The anglers were fed a fine meal of steak and baked potatoes. Brother Doug Walls, youth pastor at the church, brought an amazing message for the anglers to hear. Thank you Doug for preaching what God had placed on your heart. The anglers were briefed on tournament rules and dismissed.

“So often these tournaments become about points or winning on tournament day but I would like to take a moment to tell you about one of our fellow fisherman who’s testimony exemplifies the foundation of our tournament trail (Matthew 4:19). Chad has been fishing our division for several years and let me tell you Chad is a great guy. He is laid back, easy going, a great fisherman and always seems to be in good spirits. You see though, Chad had been putting off following God. He knew what was right and what was wrong. He knew how he needed to live but just couldn’t let go and let God have control. Chad had something happen though; he lost his brother-in-law to a car crash. His brother-in-law was 32. You never know when your time on this earth is going to be up. Our lives are like a vapor, here one minute and gone the next, and Chad saw this and knew he need to prepare for eternity so Chad made a decision on Friday night May 22nd that secured his eternity. He asked God to save him, he let go and let God have control (Matthew 4:19). Chad became a Fisher of Men. Not only did Chad make this decision but he wanted others to know and wanted to follow Christ’s example, so on Saturday morning Chad made a public profession of his faith and was baptized by his Brother in Christ, Scott Gilbreth, in the muddy waters of the Arkansas River before the tournament began. May Chad’s example remind us of what this is all about (Matthew 4:19). You may wonder how Chad finished the tournament after making the most important decision of his life. Well they didn’t get to weigh in due to motor trouble and a lock separating them and the weigh-in site. Chad may not have won the tournament but he won eternity and that is far greater than anything he could ever win on this earth.”

11 teams came to the scales to see where they finished. Coming in First Place was the team of Eric Green and Scott Terry weighing in a limit of 15.25lbs. Capturing second was the team of Glen Eastwood and Jonathan Evans with a limit weighing 14.57lbs. They also took home big fish honors with a 4.87lb lunker. Third Place went to the team of Brett Rogers and Todd Adams with a limit of 13.73lbs.

Our Final tournament of the year will be June 23rd at the Arkansas River Pendleton! We will again be guaranteeing $1,000 for first place!

1 Corinthians 1:10 - “[A Church Divided Over Leaders] I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”
