We had a great weekend to say the least for the kick off of our first tournament with the Virginia East Division. I would like to thank Mineral Baptist Church and Pastor Mike Durham for hosting our meeting Friday evening. Patty Kemp prepared a wonderful meal for us and we certainly do appreciate it. I also want to thank Duane Walter, our chaplain this year for the great message he gave us.
Even though the skys were gray and the rain was coming down most of the day, Lake Anna opened up the flood gates and the bass poured into the scales Saturday afternoon! I was at a loss for words to see what these incredible anglers were bringing up in their weigh bags. We had a great turn out Saturday with 74 boats. We started out with a beautiful sunrise, an early morning prayer and then the teams blasted off to start what ended up being a record breaking day.
Our first place team was the father and son team of Donald Estes and Keith Estes who brought in a record setting weight of 27.89lbs! This was a new 5 fish record for Lake Anna and a new 5 fish record for Va East! They also took the honor of having 1st Big Bass of 6.89lbs and to top it off, they won Bonus Bucks as well and took in a great pay day of $ 2,336.50 for the day. Keith and Donald targeted fish around grass in the upper region of the lake flipping to spawning bass. Keith and Donald what a DAY! It was a pleasure to be able to witness the biggest 5 fish limit I have ever seen weighed in before!
Coming in second place were Kevin and Monte Aleman who brought in another impressive sack topping the scales off at 24.69lbs! They took in 2nd place Big Bass with a 6.15lb bruiser. They caught their fish mid-lake in stained water flipping brush hogs. Great job guys!
Our third place team Micheal and David Williams brought in another great bag weighing in at 20.02 lbs. They caught their fish up lake flipping the grass with creature baits.
Coming in fourth place were Preston Cox and Lawrence Wollersheim with 19.49 lbs.
Rounding out the top five was Todd Langford and Jason Dellinger with a weight of 19.37 lbs.
What a great weekend Guys!! Thank you all for letting Lindsey and I be a part of this great ministry! We look forward to the rest of the season.
