East Tennessee Fishers of Men held it second event of the season on Cherokee Lake and once again First Baptist Church of Dandridge was the host church. They always provide some of the best hamburgers and hotdogs. Special Thanks to Pastor Brown and all the people of the great church for taking such good care of the anglers. We had a great church service with 2 people rededicating their lives to Jesus.
Saturday morning came with a heavy fog and no wind which delayed the blast off until almost 10 AM. With such a late blast off, the weigh-in was pushed out until 4 PM to give the fishermen a little more time to enjoy fishing on one of the most beautiful lakes in the south.
First place went to the team of Brian Tiller and Roger Bitz. This skillful team came to the scales with a nice bag of fish that weighed in at 17.56 pounds and included the 2nd biggest fish of the tournament a 4.32 pound smallmouth bass. This team reported using jerkbaits and plastic to catch their fish from main lake points focusing on water 3-15 feet deep. This team is sponsored by Dixie Custom Rods. For their effort they won over $1200. Great Job guys!!
Second place went to the father and son team of Mark and Matt Heidel. The Heidels came to the scales with a mixed bag of smallmouth and largemouth bass that hit the scales at 17.11 pounds. This team ran to the mid-section of the lake to catch their fish on a jig and a paca craw. This knowledgeable team stated they only had two keepers at 3 PM but the fish moved up and they took advantage of the feeding frenzy. With this second place finish they take over the angler of the year race.
Third place went to the joyful team of Brian Jordan and Michael Smith. This team came to the scales with 15.70 pounds of largemouth and spotted bass. Michael stated that at 2 PM they only had two fish but the last hour the fish really moved to the docks and they flipped up their fish using there Dixie Custom Rod flipping sticks to secure their third place finish.
4th place went to the skillful team of James Tipton and Michael McGee. James reported running his Nitro boat to the mid-section of the lake to catch their fish on a trap and a Super G spinnerbait. They focused on fish in the back of the pockets to bring to the scales a mixed bag of bass weighing in at 15.43 pounds which included the lunker of the tournament a 4.81 pound bass.
