East Tennessee Fishers of Men held it fifth and final event of the season on Watts Bar Lake and, once again, Whites Creek Baptist Church did a great job of providing the food and fellowship. This year pastor Roger Britton was out of town so Chris Boruff stepped up and provided the message and a great message it was with one person getting saved and one rededication! Special thanks to Pastor Ronny Jones for always stepping up to the plate and helping out.
Saturday morning came with highs in the 90s and bright sunshine and no wind. With clear water and water temperatures in the high 80s everyone knew that Watts Bar was going to fish big and it certainly did with several nice bags of fish brought to the scales.
First place went to the team of Tim and Delmar Wyatt with 18.24 pounds of fish they also had the second biggest fish of the tournament a 4.85 largemouth bass. Tim reported catching fish on a worm focusing on main lake points on the lower end of the lake. For their effort they won over $1200.
Second place went to the father and son team of Keith and Kyler Hagler. The Haglers came to the scales with a nice bag of bass that hit the scales at 15.15 pounds. This team ran to the lower-section of the lake to catch their fish flipping early and then moving out off the bank to fish deeper as the day went on.
Third place went to the talented team of James Tipton and Michael McGee. This team came to the scales with 14.51 pounds of bass. Michael and James stated they ran to the river to catch their fish on big worm fishing about 10 feet deep. James said they caught over 20 keepers during the day.
4th place went to the skillful team of Frank Cooper and Edwin Barnwell. Frank reported running his Yamaha powered Skeeter down the lake fishing over 20 spots during the tournament to bring 5 fish to the scales that weighed 14.33 pounds. This nice bag of fish included the big fish of the tournament which was a beautiful 4.96 largemouth bass. This team is sponsored by Madisonville Marine.
With one of the tightest angler of the year races in years, it came down to the last event with 3 teams less than 10 points out of the lead. The team of Todd Nidiffer and Benny Roberts, who started the day two points behind the Heidels, came to the scales with 5 fish weighing 11 pounds even, finished 5th, and came away with the 2012 Anglers of the Year award which included $580 cash and 2 custom built rods from Dixie Custom Rods. Congratulations guys!
