Geist Reservoir Results: Mar 31, 2012
The first tournament of the year was held at Geist Reservoir on March 31. Normally March tournaments in Indiana can be a little suspect but as we are all well aware of, this year has been an absolute awesome March.
It seems like it has been a long off season and it was great to see the old gang at our Friday Night Meeting. We met at The Bridge Church in Fortville and were welcomed by a pitch-in dinner. What a delicious feast we had! After dinner Pastor Rick Cochran spoke to us about Peter’s relationship with Christ. He related how we are very much like Peter and how Jesus never rebuked him, but always was there to welcome him back. Jesus encouraged Peter, knowing that in a few short weeks he would be leading thousands to be saved. Pastor Rick asked each of us if we have failed Christ, like Peter did. Seven men were so challenged by this message that they rededicated themselves in their relationship with Christ. Praise God!
As luck would have it Saturday morning was probably the coldest morning for the entire month of March, but hey it’s time to start fishing. Geist has been pumping out big limits and I think everyone wondered how the weather would affect the fish. At 3 pm the teams returned to the ramp to see how things would start for 2012. While the weights were down it seemed that there was a decent amount of fish caught. Ken Synesael and Don McLain brought in a 5 fish limit that weighed 11.64 lbs. Good enough to take the win. Jeff Hackler and Russ Dorsey were one short of their limit with 4 fish but those fish weighed 11.51 lbs and grabbed second place. They also captured Big Bass honors with a 4.57 lb fish. The team of Dan Schuster and Carl Waddington brought in a 5 fish limit that tipped the scales at 10.57 lbs while fishing from the Red Rocket borrowed from fellow competitor Ronnie True. Thank you Ronnie, we do appreciate it. Mike Weaver returned this year and actually only had three fish but when you have two 4.5 lb fish it sure helps. Mike, and sub Danny Gremillion’s, three fish weighed in at 10.61 lbs. They also captured 2nd Big Bass honors. Rounding out the top 5 were the team of Jeff Dullaghan and Chris Ulrich bringing in 4 fish that went 8.55 lbs.
Our next tournament will be held on Lake James on May 19. This should be another great tournament and we look forward to seeing you then.
Good luck to all of the teams that will be fishing the National Tournament on Pickwick Lake the week of April 9.
