Lake Shafer Results: May 5, 2012

Our first tournament of the 2012 season was held on Lake Shafer in Monticello, IN. Lake Shafer Christian Center was our host for the evening with Pastor Nate Pyle and wife Peggy making sure everything went smoothly for the evening. We dined on cheesy bites pizza, chips and cookies, washing it down with a favorite beverage. Our message for the evening was comparing fishing gear with gear God has given us for guiding our daily lives, which is the Bible. To demonstrate what it is like if you don’t have the right gear, our junior anglers were asked to throw a spinnerbait that was connected to a long piece of fishing line and land it on a paper plate. The difficulty came when the line was held in their hand and became so tangled that it was impossible to toss the lure straight at the target. This is often like our own lives and pointed out the importance of having the right equipment to do the job properly. On the other hand, the Bible is our gear for our everyday lives and guides us away from sin and to salvation.

We blasted off (actually we idle off) at 6:38 on a clear day with cool temps. What a great day God made for us to go fishing. And to top off a great time, we were blessed to have our FOM Senior Vice President, Bobby Eads with us. Thanks for joining us Bobby! And you are always welcome here in the north. Our four teams had a pretty good day with Steve Neal and Dawson Busenbark taking top honors with five fish that weighted in at 11.57 pounds. Mike Weaver and CJ Holbrook came in a close second with 5 fish that went 11.16 pounds, plus 2nd Big Bass at 3.22 pounds. Father and son, Gary and Logan Straber were third with 2 fish that weighed 4.94 pounds and a dandy largemouth that went 3.5 pounds for 1st Big Bass. Tom Kerkes and Gavin King rounded out our competitors with one nice bass going 1.15 pounds. The really great news for all of the teams is: you have qualified for the 2012 Legacy National Tournament to be held on awesome Pickwick Lake on July 27 and 28. We sure hope that you will be able to attend.

Our next tournament will be held at Lake Waveland on June 2.

I want to thank everyone for their patience and kind words as I start my duties as Legacy Director. I especially want to thank Sharon and Jeff Tighe for their continuing help and support and Bobby Eads’ input is always the most up to date available.

May grace and peace be with you all…….

Jerry
