For Illinois Central Fishers of Men Legacy series our Friday evening meeting was held at the First Christian Church in Sullivan. Our new Chaplain Grant Wade who is also ‘Family Pastor’ at First Christian Church took charge and with the help of his wife and young son prepared the meal. Which I believe he has a good future as a chef ( at least for Legacy). After the meal Grant presented the devotional message tying in how even on days when we do not catch any fish it is nice get out and enjoy all that God has created. The fish are just an added bonus to a good day.
The Official tournament season got under way June 2nd bright and early with everybody wondering if this was the right day for tournament. For a rare occurrence took place it was not raining when did boat livewell checks. The rain did come later in the morning but it was only a brief shower and soon cleared off and the Illinois Central Fishers of Men Legacy series record is still intact. Ten of the last eleven tournaments it has rained at least briefly if not most of the day.
Six teams took to the water Saturday morning bright and early looking for that big bass. The weather conditions were a little on the cool side with the temperatures in the 50’s to start the day and by weigh-in time were in the upper 60’s. When it was time to bring their catches to the scales five teams had fish. There were a total of 23 fish caught for a total weight 0f 39.57 pounds. Three teams had full five fish limits and two teams had four fish bags.
In first place once again was Kaleb Wood and his sub adult partner Don West. Don reported that Kaleb caught all five fish and he also won the Big Bass award with big bass of 2.53 pounds. Their total catch weighed in at 9.81 but had a penalty for one dead fish giving the weight of 9.56.
Right behind them was the team of David Puyear and David Hudspath who had five fish limit but they also had a problem with dead fish. Their total weight was 9.53 but the penalty brought it down to 8.78. Team David/David as well as taking second place for total bag also had the second largest bass which weighed 2.50 pounds.
Our next tournament will be June 23 again on Lake Shelbyville at Wolf Creek State Park. The Friday evening meeting will be held at 6 PM at Jonathan Creek Christian Church – Sullivan.
