Lake Shelbyville Results: Jul 14, 2012
The Illinois Central Fishers of Men Legacy Bass Tournament Series held the final tournament of the 2012 season on Saturday July 14th at Wolf Creek State Park on Lake Shelbyville. The pre-tournament meeting was held at Solid Rock Chapel in Sullivan. The church ladies served meal of lasagna, salad and deserts.
Skip Renfro, elder at Solid Rock Chapel spoke on “our words” can direct us and others in life, or words can destroy us and others, our words display who we are and what is in our hearts and our words can delight others.
Tournament day was in keeping with the warm (no hot) temperatures that Illinois has been experiencing. At time there was slight breeze. The majority of the teams brought fish to the scales as they were competing for the Points Championship trophies and a cash award from Scott State Bank. The event was won by the father-son team of Nick and Tyson Kime of Pana, IL who also had big bass for the tournament and big bass for the season also. Their big bass weighed 4.67 pounds and a three fish total weight was 7.30 pounds. This gave Nick and Tyson trophies for first place and big bass. This was only the second tournament Tyson had fished. Tyson said he was getting good with the net for the fish his dad caught. Second place went to another father-son team of Jason and Nathan Doty of Decatur, IL. They brought four fish to the scales with total weight of 6.23 pounds and the Points Champion award of trophies plus a $100.00 check from Points Champion sponsor Scott State Bank. Third place went to the team of Troy Boley of Mahomet, IL and Logan Boggs of Farmer City, IL., who early in the day developed boat motor troubles, but they had fish so the continued fishing with just the trolling motor and had Logan’s dad bring the trailer to meet them at a close boat ramp to make it back in time for weigh-in. Troy and Logan had three fish with one dead fish that gave them a total weight, after penalty for dead fish, of 4.48 pounds. Second big bass award went to another father-son team of Mike & Dalton McGill of Findlay, IL whose big bass weighed 2.35 pounds.
At the start of the day there were three teams within four points of the leaders and Jason and Nathan where in third place. Being a tough day on the lake their four fish bag was the only one close to a full limit thus moving them to the top as Points Champions for 2012 season.
One team is scheduled to go to the National Championship July 27th & 28th at Lake Pickwick in Alabama to compete for the national championship competing against over 130 other teams from around the country. These two teams are Elmo Weaver & Kaleb Wood both of Sullivan, IL .
