The Fishers of Men North Carolina East Legacy division held their third tournament for 2010 on September 8th. The tournament was held on the Yeopium River in Bethel NC. The reason to split the season up between spring and fall was to try and get away from the hot days of summer. Well we almost succeeded, high temp for the day was 91 degrees but thankfully a strong breeze was blowing which help a little. It was still better than the last two years with temp over 100 degrees. The 12 teams who competed brought to scales 31 bass and all were released alive. A total weight of 58.52 lbs was recorded.
The weekend kicked off with the Friday night meeting which was held at the Woodland United Methodist Church in Hertford NC. What a wonderful job they did feeding a crowd of hungry fishermen and their families a wonderful meal of hamburger and hotdogs with all the fixin's. A special thanks to Mr. Jesse and Ms Hilda Harrell for doing the cooking and preparations. It was great and enjoyed by all. The ladies at the First Church of the Nazarene in Elizabeth City provided the deserts along with a beautiful sheet cake provided by Farm Fresh of Elizabeth City. Pastor Toni Wood of the church brought the message of the "other" fishing story from the bible, John 21:1-14.
The weigh-in kicked off at 1:00 PM. It was a tough day for allot of teams, but as normal some of the teams found the right place and the right presentation to catch their limits of largemouth. The team of Tommy Houlroyd and Tyree Brooks brought their limit of five bass to the scale, with a total weight was 10.67 and was anchored by the second big fish of the tournament a nice 3.86 lb bass. The Houlroyd / Brooks team took home $394.000 in total winnings. Second place went to the team of Gil Burke and Buddy Maddan with a limit of bass that weighed 9.57 lbs. The team of Burke / Maddan won $190.00 for their day’s effort. Third place went to the team of Gerald Murray & Morgan Murray who bought 9.17 pounds to the scale and received $168 in winnings. The team of Pat and Isaiah Seigh came in forth with a total weight of 6.19 and winnings of $72.00. Congratulations to all the teams who participated and to the team of Burke & Maddan who won the JB Custom rod raffle drawing.
