Pasquotank River Results: Mar 31, 2012
The first Team Series event of 2012 for the NC East Division of the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail was held on the Pasquotank River at Waterfront Park in Elizabeth City, NC on March 31. The weather forcast called for a 50% chance of thunderstorms. Although we did get a shower prior to the blast off, the rain held off for most of the day with a few sprinkles here and there.
The Friday night meeting was held at Evangelical Methodist Church and the message was brought by Assoc. Pastor, CD White. There were 4 rededications noted on the response cards after the invitation. The meal was catered by Bob BQ Catering, owned by Bob Carson. The hamburger steak and baked chicken was enjoyed by the fishermen and staff. It was topped off with several choices of home made desserts.
The tournament was won by Kevin Jones and Gerald Murray with a weight of 17.22 lbs. Their winnings came to $1259.50 which included $172.50 from Bonus Bucks. Kevin Jones is a 2-time NC East Points Champion and was a member of the 2008 National Championship team. The event was held on the Red River in Shreveport, LA.
Second place went to Mike Layton and Scooter Lilly with 16.20 lbs. and they won $730.50 including Bonus Bucks cash. Third place was taken by John Kellett and Jason Tripp with 15.45 lbs. and they received $503.00 including Bonus Bucks money. Fourth place went to Tom Foster and David Gardner with 15.27 lbs. worth $292.00. Fifth place went to Matt Jennings and Joe Glazebrook with 14.33 lbs. and they won $382.00 including the big fish payout. Their big fish tipped the scales at 6.10 lbs. and was worth $162.00. The second big fish prize went to Scott Mummert and Pat Seigh with a 5.14 lb. lunker worth $108.00.
The fishing was better than expected in both the quantity and the quality of fish caught. There were many 3-4 lb. fish brought to the scales. This is especially great news considering that we had massive fish kills in the area following the latest hurricane. Also, there were 22 five-fish limits caught by the field of 27 boats and no one "zeroed". Every team was able to weigh in fish, which is somewhat unusual.
The next Team Series tournament will be on April 28 at Bayside Marina in Edenton, NC. For more information contact Chuck Cullens at 252-333-6353.
