Chowan River 4/28/12

The second Team Series event of 2012 for the NC East Division of the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail was held on the Chowan River at Bayside Marina in Edenton, NC on April 28. The weather forecast called for overcast skies and cool temperatures for this time of year. Although the weather was a little dreary, the bass were cooperating. Of the 29 boats in the field, 23 caught their 5-fish limit and some teams reported catching 30 or more keepers.

The Friday night meeting was held at the 1st Assembly of God Church in Edenton and the message was brought by Pastor Randy Pierce. There was 1 first time decision for Christ and 4 rededications noted on the response cards after the invitation. One person had questions about the Christain walk.

The meal was catered by Bob BQ Catering, owned by Bob Carson. The pork and baked chicken was enjoyed by the fishermen and staff. It was topped off with several choices of home made desserts.

The tournament was won by Matt Jennings and Joe Glazebrook with a weight of 18.97 lbs. They also had the Big Fish which weighed 5.29 lbs. and was worth $174.00 Their winnings came to $1543.00 which included $325.00 from Bonus Bucks. Jennings and Glazebrook are currently in second place in the points race, only 2 points behind the leaders Kevin Jones and Gerald Murray.

Second place went to Charles Goff, Jr. and his father, Charles Goff, Sr. who was substituting for Bobby Clark. They had 17.85 lbs. and took home $598.00. Third place was taken by the current points leaders, Jones and Murray with 17.51 lbs. They received $611.00 including Bonus Bucks money. Fourth place went to Charles Weathersbee and Michael Hinson with 16.17 lbs. Their total payout was $560.00 including Bonus Bucks and 2nd Big Fish cash. Weathersbee and Hinson landed the 2nd Big Fish of the day which weighed 5.15 lbs. and netted the pair an additional $116.00. In fifth place was Frank Gunia and Gary Sawyer with 15.62 lbs. and they won $238.00.

The top five in the race for the Points Championship are:
1. Gerald Murray and Kevin Jones – 398
2. Matt Jennings and Joe Glazebrook – 396
3. John Kellett and Jason Tripp – 391
4. Mike Layton and Scooter Lilly – 389
5. Charles Goff and Bobby Clark - 385

There were many 3-4 lb. fish brought to the scales. This is especially great news considering that we had massive fish kills on the Chowan following the latest hurricane.
