Perquimans River Results: May 26, 2012
The third Team Series event for the NC East Division of the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail was held on the Perquimans River in Hertford, NC on May 26. The race for the Points Championship got a little more interesting. Some of the top teams struggled on a day when the bite was tough, allowing other teams take advantage of their misfortune and gain ground with a good catch.
The weather was great except for the windy conditions. The rough seas on the Albemarle Sound limited some anglers, who stayed on the Perquimans River rather than traveling to other locations. The bite was tough which was reflected in less than average weights for most of the teams. As is always the case, some teams will figure out a pattern that will be succesful.
The Friday night meeting was held at Hertford Baptist Church. We appreciate Chris Conway setting up the meeting for us. Hertford Baptist has hosted us for both the Team and Legacy Series for the past two years. The message was delivered by Glen Maynard, the NC East Division Chaplin. There were 3 rededications indicated on the response cards. The Lord is working in the lives of our fishermen.
Bob BQ catered the meal and the desserts were home made. The meal was enjoyed by all.
The tournament was won by Charles Goff and Chase Clarke with 14.44 lbs. including the 2nd Big Fsh of the Day, a 4.96 lb. kicker. Chase is only 12 yrs. old and was subbing for his father, Bobby Clarke who had surgery on his hand and was unable to fish. They received $1000.00 which included a $100 bonus for 2nd Big Fish. Watch out Bobby, Charles may have found a new partner!
The win also moved Goff and Clarke from 5th place to 1st place in the points standings after three events.
Second place was taken by Frank Gunia and Gary Sawyer with 13.51 lbs. and the Big Fish of the Day which weighed 5.62 lbs. They won $918.00 including $150.00 for the Big Fish and $250.00 from Bonus Bucks. The second place finish moved Gunia and Sawyer from 7th place to 3rd place in the points standings.
