Launch Location: Gun Powder State Park
Upper Chesapeake Bay
We had a great season this year and this was the last tournament on the schedule. Today there was a possibility of 3 teams in the running for the Points Championship.
First we’ve got to thank Salem United Methodist Church for hosting our Friday night meeting. We were greeted with a fine meal of salad, fried chicken, green beans, potato salad and, for dessert, pumpkin pie. The fried chicken was excellent and I heard many compliments from this meal. Our Friday night speaker was Jerry Sersen who spoke about putting others first. His message brought forward one recommitment.
Philippians 2:1-5 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.
Taking 1st place with a 5 fish limit for 16.27 lbs was the team of Don Carter and Brent Thackston. Their total winnings came to $780 for their effort.
Finishing in a very close 2nd was the team of Tom and Jimmy Rufenacht. They were just .05 lbs behind with 16.22 lbs. Their total winnings for claiming 2nd place came to $390 plus an additional $50 for winning the bonus bucks.
Tom and Jimmy also won the Points Championship for the Maryland Division. They came into the tournament 5 points out of 1st place. Tom & Jimmy were very consistent this year, claiming a win and two 2nd place finishes, and they were the only team to bring in a 5 fish limit in each tournament. Their 5 tournament’s total weight came to 84.78 lbs, for an average of 3.39 lbs per bass. They won the champions pot of $415. Congratulations!
Taking 3rd place were Buzz Billings Jr & Buzz III with 5 bass for 15.87 lbs. They also had 1st Place Big Bass with a 5.65 lbs bass, good for $78. Don Daily & Stephen Ench finished in 4th with 14.24 and 2nd Big Bass for $52. Rounding out the top 5 were Randy Yarnall and Rick Rush and their 5 bass came to 13.34 lbs with 2nd place bonus bucks good for $30.
