The Kentucky West Division kicked off the 2012 season this weekend at Green River Lake outside of Campbellsville, Kentucky. Anglers from all over Kentucky as well as Indiana gathered to ply the clearing water for the plentiful largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass. Reports of numerous 5 to 7 pound fish leading up to the tourney had everyone excited and ready to hit the water. But first, we would all gather for the pre-tournament meeting for food, fellowship, and a great message.

61 anglers and friends were welcomed by the Campbellsville Baptist Church for a wonderful meal of fried chicken tenders with all the trimmings. Church member and former FOM angler, Chris Ambers, did a terrific job of providing a warm atmosphere and an outstanding dinner. Following the meal, long-time Fishers of Men angler, Rick Brammer, delivered an inspiring message using the account of Jesus calming the troubled sea. Following the message, one precious young person gave her life to Christ! Praise Him for His grace!

Saturday morning brought with it cooler weather as the unseasonably warm days were swept away by severe thunderstorms on Friday night. The cold front did seem to have an effect on the bass as the 20 to 25 pound stringers of a week ago were nowhere to be found. But there were still several hefty largemouths brought to the scales along with some nice smallmouths and spots. 34 teams blasted off at safe light in search of enough bass to claim the victory.

Leading the field with a winning weight of 16.14 pounds was the team of Jarrod Hembree and Luke Devere. Hembree and Devere also had the second biggest bass of the day – a 6.15 pounder. They reported catching their 4 fish on a jig flipped around wood in a cove in the upper end of the lake. Including a win in the bonus bucks, they cashed in to the tune of $1471.50, and took home the beautiful plaques provided by Awards, Inc. in Glasgow, Kentucky.

Coming in second place was the team of Doug Coulter and Todd Wilson. Coulter and Wilson wound up with 16.10 pounds with their 5 fish limit. They caught their fish on spinnerbaits and earned $769.50 in prize money on the day. Lloyd Easterly and Steve Denton rounded out the top three with a 16.03 pound stringer receiving $562 for their efforts.

Come on out to Barren River Lake on April 28th and join us for the second event of the season! Fishing should be great and good times will be available to all! Call Joel Franks at 270-579-4085 for details.
