Big fish bonanza at Clinton
A great Friday night meal, an inspirational message, and some unbelievable fishing! What a fantastic way for the Fishers of Men Illinois Central Division to kick off the 2012 tournament season!
The weekend started with dinner and the pre-tournament meeting at the The First Baptist Church of Farmer City who took great care of all the anglers, including our guests from the Illinois North division who were joining us for the tournament.
Saturday morning the fisherman awoke to the sound of rain and the occasional clap of thunder. Fortunately the rain stopped just in time for everyone to get their boats lauched, and, other than some chilly temperatures, things were looking good as the anglers prepared to search Clinton Lake for some lunker bass. One team who had no problem finding the fish was that of Clay Reeves and Dan Winkle who put together a very impressive limit weighing 24.07 pounds, netting them the first place prize money of $1,146.50. Finishing not far behind in second place was the duo of Kent Oakley and Mike Barnes with 23.64 pounds, third place was taken by Travis Boley and John Mckinney with 22.86 pounds, the fourth slot was occupied by Clint Seaman and Brent Hauser with 19.73 pounds, and Cliff Brooks and Justin Isaac rounded out the top five with 19 pounds. Brooks and Isaac also accounted for the big bass of the tournament with a 5.81 pound bruiser.
The tournament produced some amazing numbers with 106 fish being brought to the scales weighing an impressive 355.77 pounds. Out of twenty two teams, nineteen had five fish limits, and eleven teams had at least 16 pounds. With totals like that we should have plenty of people coming back for the second tournament on May 26.
