F.O.M. March Tournament- Sam Rayburn Results: Mar 24, 2012
The March tournament found 40 teams and guests back at the church of our gracious host, First Baptist Church Broaddus. The Friday night meeting was a true blessing, from the wonderful food that was sponsored by Darin Skero and S.O.O.N. Ministries, fantastic door prizes and the inspirational message brought by Pastor Greg Kingry.
S.O.O.N. Ministries B-B-Q’d chicken , sausage, potatoes and a corn casserole that would make your momma proud to call her own. We topped it off with chocolate cake. Pastor Rusty West warned Greg that he better bring some fire and brimstone or the men would fall asleep after the meal they were fed!
Pastor Greg used an illustration out of Philippians to challenge our fishermen to be content with what and where the Lord has us in each season of life as Paul went on to say, “ I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. 13 I can do all things [a]through Him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:12-13)
We had some special guests come and share a ministry need from The Learning Center pre-school, a ministry of First Broaddus. Their existing building is over 100 years old and is going to have to be torn down and rebuilt and this is extremely difficult as this area of the country is really financially challenged. Our group will be donating to this cause during this fishing season and we began it by showing just how generous our fishermen are as we collected over $1500.00 at this meeting. The ladies were moved to tears and give the Lord all the glory. Thanks folks, you are awesome!
Saturday mornings launch and blast off went off without a hitch and we didn’t need our hip boots this time like we did last month. The weather was spectacular as the Lord blessed us with a “bluebird sky”. Bill Boyett and Mike McDonald were our March winners with a sack that weighed in at 14.23. Stephen Kinney and Jimmy Martin took second with a stringer weighing in at 13.83. Buddy Medley and Gary Medley were third with 12.38. Bill Boyett and Mike McDonald won big bass with a fish weighing 5.36. Mark Boyett and Lester Springer won second place in big bass with a fish that weighed 5.11. Looks like those Boyett’s must be holding their mouths just right!
Thanks to the team that helped make this tournament happen, Larry Daigle, Eric Omenson, Randon Polk, Rusty West, Bill Boyett, Mike McDonald, Greg Kingry and a special thank you to Debra Polk who put countless hours in to make sure we had all the “I’s” dotted and the “T’s” crossed to make this ministry go forward.
