Lake Fork tournament Results: Apr 28, 2012
The FOM Lake Fork Division had four teams meet on Friday night at the First Baptist Church in Quitman. All the participants were greeted with door prizes from Macatack Lures. Dee and her helpers Dorothy and Melisa served a fabulous burrito dinner with all the trimmings. Dorothy made some great desserts (the banana pudding was a huge hit). Thank you ladies, the food was absolutely wonderful.
After the meal Roger Speed shared an awesome message. He first reminded us that we should never forget to conduct ourselves with love and compassion for those who may wander in during the weigh-in ceremony because we may be the only Christ some of those people ever see. He then shared with us his personal testimony which reflected the theme of Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old he will not depart from it.” He shared with us 1) that as a child he was trained up by loving Christian parents in the way he should go, 2) the bad choices he made as an adult took him away from following the Lord, and 3) the miraculous reconciliation that came because the Lord never gave up on him. He implored the young fathers to spend quality time with their children so that when they become older, they will have the training to know the right things to do. Thank you Roger for sharing the Word.
Prior to the conclusion of the meeting we gave away some nice prizes then selected the order of launch. Our division director, Mac McIntyre gave the benediction. A great time was had by all and we give thanks to our Lord for the wonderful fellowship that we shared.
I wish I could say that we were blessed with a beautiful day at first light but a steady 20 mile per hour southerly wind blew all day. We were limited to setting up our banners until right before our weigh-in, but the weigh-in went well. This was our 3rd Tournament for the season and even though we had fewer participants than usual, this was perhaps our best one yet.
Congratulations to Rick Collis and Clayton Rhodes for tipping the scales with 7.34 lbs. What an awesome bag considering the conditions. Their 5-fish limit won them not only the 1st Place Check, but also the optional 1st Place Bonus Bucks, which all totaled earned them $ 434.00 in prize money. They were exclusively throwing spinner bait all morning.
2nd Place was won by the father and son team of David and Mason Maeker who weighed in at 5.88 lbs. They brought their 5 fish limit in fishing solely with H&H’s.
Coming in 3rd was the team of James Nickell and Larry Barnes who brought 3 fish to the scales weighing a total of 3.15 lbs. They reported that there fish were caught on the Fluke, Frog and Hyper stick.
Next tourney will be on May 26th, and hopefully we’ll see some big weights brought to the scales. This will be our 4th event for 2012. All of our teams are fishing for the opportunity to qualify for the Regional’s, where they’ll be fishing for a new 19’ Skeeter Bass Boat.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the fine companies that make Fishers of Men possible; Skeeter Boats, Yamaha Outboards, Stren, Pflueger, Markel Marine Insurance, Nester Hosiery, Strike King Lure Company, Power-Pole, Marshall’s Marine, Helly Hansen, Keelshield, Spot Remover, Jacobs Glass, Solar Bat, Duckett Fishing, Berkley, and Rejuvenade.
