First of all thank you God for the miracle of children and the joy we can see in their smiles.
Thanks to everyone who made the first ever Legacy – Eastern Kentucky –Fishers of Men event possible. Thanks to Tom’s Creek Freewill Baptist, Pastor James Kelly Caudill and the entire church family for providing a magnificent meeting place. Thanks to Jason Rice and Chris Ferguson whose sponsorship made the entire event possible. Thanks to the anglers both young and old.
Our first Friday night event could not have been held in a better place. Tom’s Creek Freewill Baptist is the oldest Freewill Baptist in Kentucky at 136 years old. Our evening got underway with great grilled hamburgers and hotdogs from grill master Philip Wireman, with trimmings along with potato salad and baked beans from the Fergusons. The deserts were great with the special apple pies.
After our meal Pastor James Kelly Caudill brought our message from the book of Hebrews. Pastor Caudill spoke from chapter 11 verses 23 through 27. He related to us how “by faith” Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. Pastor Caudill related how Moses made a choice to stand on his faith and not give into the world and he challenged us to have faith in our choices and to know where our faith is anchored. Pastor Caudill also shared how during the first 40 years Moses was “trying to be somebody”, the second 40 years Moses spent “knowing he was nobody”, the last 40 years Moses “knew God was everything”.
We completed our evening with every team winning at least one door prize and all junior anglers receiving gifts.
As we prepared to depart Pastor Caudill invited the Fishers of Men back for other events such as a banquet, recognition, or promotion event. Stay tuned for an event late this year for the whole family.
Our Saturday morning started with fog and a very light breeze. The anglers safely left the ramp area around 6:15 and returned at noon with all teams bringing fish to the scaled. The weigh in took place und bright sunny warm skies. It was a treat to hear our youngest angler Dallas Johnson share that he had caught the fish for his team. Way to go.
The team of Jason and Grant Rice took first with 5.99 and tied with the team of Chris and Donovan Ferguson for big fish with 2.37.
All teams shared soft drinks, snacks and stories to completed our first event.
Thank you all for helping pack away the equipment, what a great bunch of … family.
