7th Annual Tyler Ford Open
We started off with our Banquet Friday night at Trinity Baptist Church. We would like to thank them for their hospitality. They served us all the Taco soup and cake we could eat.
Evidently our friends from South Carolina do not eat spicy food like us Texas boys do. Chris Wells who is the BASS Elite Series Chaplain, who came all the way from South Carolina to speak, said Cathy’s Taco soup lit him up. It’s just an everyday staple for us.
Chris captured our attention from the very start with his fishing stories. He had everyone laughing. This guy is a great motivator. He shared with us out of the book of Daniel, and challenged us not to be flippant with the things of God.
Saturday morning started off with drizzle and by 10am it was non stop hard rain the rest of the day. We heard it rained 4 inches during the tournament. We won’t gripe about the rain because lake Tyler was down 4 ½ foot Saturday morning.
It seems like most anglers caught plenty of fish, but it was tough finding keepers. This time of year usually produces several 6 to 8 pound hogs. Most teams in the money had the best luck using crank baits. Our 1st place team said has long as the crank bait had chartreuse on it the fish would bite.
The team of Bart Doty & Carston Pickett won 1st place with 5 fish that weighed 18.00.lbs. They won a total of $1678.00. They also had big bass. H&W Marine bought the insurance policy for the special big bass prize opportunity. The constant with the biggest bass had a chance to win the new 18 ft Skeeter powered by a 150 Yamaha. Doty & Pickett’s 4.76 big bass missed the last two digits by .13 of a pound. Better luck next year guys.
Coming in 2nd place and taking home $899.00 was Eric Leuschner & Coy Spencer. Their 5 fish weighed 15.55 lbs. Anthony Jones & Marlon Lydia came in 3rd place with 5 fish that weighed 13.99 lbs. They won $522.00. Coming in 4th place was Robert Templin & Martin Boren. They’re 5 fish weighed 12.73 lbs. They took home $295.00. The 5th place team was Billy Ferguson & Dale Jackson. They took home $206.00
We would like to thank all of the anglers who came out a braved the rain. We would also like to thank Tyler Ford for their continued support. We want to thank H&W Marine for bringing that new Skeeter and for offering up the special big bass prize opportunity.
