2012 FOM Stren Team Series Lake Erie East Regional Championship
Bart Shaffer and Jake Frazenbaker take the Day One lead with 21.39 lbs

By: Senior Writer
Sept. 21, 2012 Erie, PA… The FOM Stren Team Series kicked off the first of four regional championship tournaments on Friday morning as competitors from New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina launched the East Regional Championship out of Presque Isle Bay at 6:45 this morning under clear skies and mild temperatures. As the day moved along, mostly cloudy skies and fierce 15 to 20 mph winds replaced the calmness of daybreak, thus, causing difficulty for many anglers out on the main lake. By the end of the day, 62 teams hauled in 153 fish, weighing 462.56 lbs, which included 18, 5-fish limits.

The West Virginia North team of Bart Shaffer and Jake Frazenbaker took the lead today with five fish weighing in at 21.39 lbs.

Less than a half-pound behind the leaders and resting in 2nd place, with 21 lbs even, are Tom Belinda and Daniel Peterman (Pennsylvania Central).

Another West Virginia North team, John Swesey and Ron Feites, is holding down the 3rd slot with 18.69.

North Carolina-Piedmont partners, Ryan Pardue and Michael Bridges are in fourth place with 17.87 lbs.

The Day 1, 1st Big Fish Award went to James and George Holencik, for their 5.75 lbs smallie and the 2nd Big Fish Award came to PA-C anglers, Thomas Cannon and Bryan Alterir, for their 5.50 lbs smallmouth. Thomas and Bryan netted 3 fish today that went 12.22 lbs.

The top 10 teams by weight and the highest placing team from each division, not already qualified, along with the highest finishing Adult-Youth and Male-Female teams from all 2012 Regional Championships will earn a berth to the 2012/2013 Stren Team Series National Championship, Presented by Pflueger, which will be held May 16th, 17th, and 18th on Clarks Hill Reservoir in Columbia County Georgia where the first place prize will be a 2013 Skeeter FX21 powered by the strong running Yamaha 250/SHO and the second place prize, a Skeeter ZX190 powered by a Yamaha 150, or cash prizes.
