Congratulations to the 1st place team of Josh Moon & James Whittman, who caught 5 largemouth bass weighing in at 17.52 lbs. They reported catching all their fish later in the day. The team reported catching the fish shallow in 5’ water, on slowly retrieved white with green & orange 3/4 oz double bladed gold willowleaf Kevin VanDam spinnerbaits. The fish were caught rippin’ the baits out of the slimy grass down lake by the dam. Josh Moon & James Whittman said they prayed all day to catch these 5 fish and wanted to recognize Bass Cat boats, Lustine Toyota/Dodge, Harmonix Rods and Orange County Bassmasters. Their efforts were worth $1,262.00 for first place. They are eligible to receive $750 in 1st place bonus money (VA East Division only). 2nd place: Ronnie Connor / Sonny Conner (14.61 lbs.); 3rd place: Frank Poirer / Warren Poirer (12.40); 4th place: Steve Davis / Kevin Simpson (12.17 lbs.) & 1st Big fish (6.43 lbs.); 5th place: Chris Jackson / Robert Pitts (11.85 lbs.); 6th place: Bill Barnes / Earl Bumbrey (10.39 lbs.); 7th place: Bill Hamilton / Bill Hutchison (9.68 lbs.) & 2nd Big fish (6.39 lbs.); 8th place: Daniel Showalter / Richard Showalter (9.04 lbs.); 9th place: Tony Kidwell / Ronnie Harrell (8.09 lbs.); 10th place: Danny Erb / Chuck Pertee (7.73 lbs.).
Saturday, April 21st was the second tournament event for the 2007 season of the VA East Division of the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail. The tournament conditions included light winds and blue bird skies throughout the day. Cool temperatures in the morning rose to the mid 70’s in the afternoon. The water was muddy to stained with temperatures in the low 60’s. Some of the lake’s fish were on their beds but most fish caught were pre-spawners. Atleast a dozen fish were brought to the scales that exceeded 5 pounds!
The pre-tournament meeting included food, fun and fellowship in an uplifting environment. 140 fishermen and family members attended the meeting, where they were served complimentary and delicious meals including meat loaf, green beans, mashed potatoes/gravy, rolls and dessert. The extremely popular band Amy Ladd & Friends entertained the group. Our guest speaker was the Deputy Chief of Police for Henrico County Doug Middleton. An object lesson included Roy Armstrong (our previous speaker) wearing handcuffs and being escorted by Lieutenant Colonel Middleton. Roy had shared his “colorful” testimony about his past life of sin and how thru accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and by following Him he was set free from sin (Roy’s handcuffs were removed). Lieutenant Colonel Doug Middleton also shared his testimony and encouraging words. The Lord touched hearts, and 2 persons indicated they accepted Him into their life as well as 7 others who indicated rededications. I want to thank Gary Lane and all the hard working folks at New Jerusalem Fellowship Church for assisting with the meal preparation and service. Many hands helped make this event a huge success!
Congratulations to the participants who won over $1,000 in door prizes. Throughout the season the VA East Division will raffle off over $5,000 retail value of merchandise at our events. In addition, the team of Jeff Camp / Steve Camp became eligible to win 2 Kistler Rods (Last Place Consolation Prize). This is some of the many ways we thank our anglers for their participation.
