Well here we are, tournament number two already. This month finds us in Angola for the weekend of May 18-19 at Lake James. After a day of chasing fish on the lake the anglers met at the SonLight Community Church for a great meal and our meeting.

Our new Chaplain, Leon Hensley was going to deliver the message but had his Gall Bladder removed shortly before the tournament and was unable to make it. Illinois Central Director, Carl Parks stepped up to the plate and delivered an awesome message/testimony. The stabbing death of his father at 8, the death of his mother at 17, dealing drugs, using drugs, and the list could go on. Carl likened his life to that of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15. He then went on to tell us about how God blessed him with his wife Heather. His life was not turned around instantly but over time he has become a great man of God and a living testimony that God can do anything. Carl left us with an awesome challenge of “God doesn’t care about your ability, he cares about your availability”.

Again the topic was short fish and would anyone even catch a keeper. Local anglers Quinn Hoyer and Jeff Noll proved us wrong by hitting weigh in with 5 fish that tipped the scales at 13.04 lbs. Their bag was anchored by a 4.20 lb fish that also took home tournament big bass honors. I see you overcame your trolling motor issues rather quickly. Nice job guys it was good to see you again at our tournament. We hope you make it back the next time we are in town. The always high strung team of Steve Estridge and Charlie Monds brought in a limit of fish weighing 9.20 lbs to grab second place. Jeff Hackler and Russ Dorsey took over the points lead with a third place finish with 5 fish that weighed 7.65 lbs. Mike Weaver and CJ Holbrook also had five fish that went 6.97 lbs and was good enough for fourth place. Rounding out the top five was the team of Steve Neal and Fred Lynn. The duo had three fish that weighed 5.49 lbs. Second big bass honors went to the team of Ken Synesael and Don McLain with a 2.80 lb fish. I’d like to take a minute to start a new segment call “Launching Tips”. When launching a boat be sure to remove all straps for ease of entry into the water. Sorry Brian I just couldn’t let that one go…..we have all been there.

Our next tournament will be on lovely Raccoon Lake on June 16th. Bring anything you would like to get rid of for the Tackle Swap before the meeting. Bring any old fishing equipment and make your best deals.
