Man time sure does fly when you are having a good time. We are only a few weeks away from having this season in the books. Our fourth tournament of the year was held July 14 at Lake Shafer Indiana. As was the tradition the anglers were treated to an awesome meal at Lake Shafer Christian Center by the ladies of the church. I vote for Lake Schaffer at least 2 times a year.

Before I go any further I want to take a minute to recognize David Sturgill. Dave’s grandson has been in our prayers for quite some time and I heard in the check in line that evening that he had gone to be with the Lord. While we can rejoice that this 4 year old child is not suffering, it sure does break ones heart to hear about the loss. Keep remembering Dave and his entire family as this will not be an easy time. I also want to recognize his partner Leon Hensley for making the trip up. Not one of us would have said a word had he backed out of the message and tournament. Pastor Leon Hensley stepped up to the plate to deliver the message for the anglers. Leon’s message was on Hindrances to our faith. What is holding you back from getting close to God? He gave his personal testimony of hindrances in his life. Wonderful message Leon! 2 individuals renewed their faith.

Saturday morning 18 teams (this number will be significant later on in the write up) took off from the Big Monon in an attempt to bring in the largest sack of the day and claim first place. At the end of the day the team of Lance Freeman and Carl Parks took home top honors with a 5 fish limit of 10.22 lbs. I have been trying to figure out a way to protest them: like being from Illinois, being a director, etc., but I can’t come up with anything. So nice job guys and I hope we see you again next year. It has been great having you on the circuit. The team of Russ Dorsey and Jeff Hackler waited until the very end to toss their bag on the scales and grab second place with 9.67 lbs. They also had a 3.61 lb small mouth kicker to claim top honors in the Big Bass race. To quote an angler at the weigh in, “when you’re hot you’re hot”. The boys have been leading the points since the second tournament. Trey Green and Jerad “Potato Salad” Schwedler had a five fish limit of 9.53 lbs as well as second big bass with a 3.16 lb fish. The team of Dan Schuster and Carl Waddington brought a limit to the scales that went 9.49 lbs and rounding out the top 5 was the team of Steve Neal and Fred Lynn with 5 fish that went 9.10 lbs. I would like to make special note that we normally have well over 20 teams, which would mean a paycheck for the 4th place team….but with 18 teams. Well you can do the math. I guess my payment is in the form of getting to write the articles.

We need to thank Bill Burton at the Big Monon Trailer Park for all his help. Our next tournament is scheduled for Aug. 18 at Morse Reservoir but with the lack of rain and water levels I have no idea what will happen. Stay tuned.
